Most are non-smoking. You don't mention the hotel you are visiting in the USA. Why not check the hotel web site to see what policy they have regarding smoking.
Unless you're in Las Vegas there are few smoking rooms any more. Some hotels will charge customers a hefty cleaning fee if they smoke in a non smoking room.
Thanks for the replies. I didnt know if they had a complete ban as here or they could choose, it appears they can choose
