Hi Helen ... smoking ban legislation varies between individual UK nations. As you say, smoking is permitted in designated bedrooms. However, in Scotland for example, smoking rooms are discretionary rather than obligatory. Hoteliers have discretion under the legislation to provide smoking rooms if they wish, providing that any designated smoking rooms have a ventilation system which is not shared by or ventilates into any non-smoking part of the hotel. The legislation in Scotland also provides rights for staff who may have to work in designated smoking rooms.

A similar topic has been running in our General Holiday Enquiries forum, it is one of the few smoking ban topics not to have been closed due to the disharmony this subject usually creates between smokers and non smokers .... please click here.

However, I will close this one to reduce duplication.
