If you are talking about going away in Europe, then I think you could be disappointed if you are looking for snow. There maybe some falls on th hills, but these days there is no guarantee the snow will be at village level. I believe last year in Lapland, there was a lot less snow than the previous year, so it could be a chance you'd just have to take. It'll certainly be cold at that time of year but whether it snows or not is a different story.

If you just want to see snow at Christmas then Lapland might be OK , if you want to take part in winter sports you will need to choose a really high resort possibly with a glacier.
I live about an hours drive away from the Austrian/German Alps and for a week now the weather has been very cold and we have already had snow(though not enough for skiing) But it could turn warm and then we will lose whatever covering there is. It's a real hit and miss affair these days, as Jade said absolutely no guarantee. Some years I have already being skiing by the beginning of November other years it's been after Christmas before there has been enough snow.
Having said that I love to drive down to the Alps on a sunny day after a heavy snowstorm and see blue skies and the houses and trees covered in snow and on a really clear day I can see the mountains from the village where I live.

Judith that sounds lovely - and I cannot get a clearer answer than that from someone who lives where you do.

As you say no guarantee - the previous week before we were in Finland, had no snow at all. Perhaps I shall now re- think a destination or maybe go next year (Feb half term
