Don't play that game any longer. If there's are beds will have them, if not down to the beach. Only the two of us so not a problem
same here bejay i refuse to get up early.i just do it if they are there when i am ready but like i say on the few occasions i have done it people take them off but others seem to get away with it.i find it quite amusing watching them
Last year at Lykia though we just couldn't be bothered so everyday for 14 days we were like nomads wandering about looking for a few sunbeds at 10ish and having to do that undignified thing of finding two, then dragging odd ones across as and when they become available. Fortunately the place was so large if you couldn't get them by the pool you could often get them on the beach or round the adult only pools.
Egypt is a bit easier as once the pool boys work out where you like to lay of a morning, towels start to magically appear for you in your fav spot, in the hope you may tip them.
I'm guilty. In my defence though, I'm an early riser and like to be at the poolside bright and early. I normally take 3 towels as well as my own to the poolside. However, unlike some I don't then disappear for hours. I stay put until the other 3 join me which isn't more than a half hour later. Other than a half hour breakfast break and a little longer for lunch we will all make full use of our loungers. If we decide to go for a walk or to the beach we take the towels off so others can freely use them.
I am like you shirley. I usually wake up before OH and son so I toddle down and get some. Last year at HVV in Majorca it was a real pain as they chained them up until 9am and lots of people were up at about 6.30 tying towels around parasols to stake place by pool. sad sods did they forget they are meant to be on hols. one particular chap actually boasted that he got up at 5am to get sunloungers what a saddo!!!!! never going there again total rat race not at all relaxing....
I am an early riser anyway .Normally around 6-6.30 on holiday . I jump straight out of bed and gather up my towels . In my defence I do usually stay with those sunbeds , read my book and grab a coffee or just sit chatting to the other early morning sun bed runners before heading back around 8.30 to wake the rest of my family for breakfast . we are then all back to the sunbeds where we all spend the day around the pool.
If the rest of my family are diving I will of course only reserve one for me
lyn
What I won't do though is reserve beds we have no intention of using- I hate seeing beds empty apart from towels all day, so their owners can have them late afternoon when they return from wherever
Pam
I used to be a "sunbed pirate", but not really anymore. I tend to go on hols out of peak season now, due to son growing up, so it's not really an issue. I also like the beach, which poses fewer problems, if any. I've never really seen many problems of late, but we still have to beat the "Germans"
Robby
I like to get up at the "crack of Dawn", but that's between me and Dawn and I hope the Mrs never finds out.
To be honest, thats a cracking joke!!! I always used it around my mate who's girlfriend is called Dawn!
Robby & Chivas -You two could be the new Laurel & Hardy. If its just OH & myself we don't usually bother, as we can usually find 2 somewhere. If there's more then its usually myself or Shirley h. I have never put a towel on a bed and gone off for hours. If there's no beds available I just go to the swim up bar

Laurel and who??????, don't you mean Ant and Dec.
Robby
On our last holiday we used to put our towels on the same beds, same place, next to 2 very nice German ladies, when we went for breakfast, then one morning someone else had taken them,so after that the 2 German ladies saved them for us!!!
till lunch time then we take our towels back to the room and sit in the shade of a goan beach shack all afternoon
perfect
It does give me the odd smile when I see the activity going on though. It seems like a lot of stress to me
Best part of the day for me coffee, ciggy, book and peace
Only ever do it if we intend staying tho
If we are off somewhere later then the towels go back to the room
I did have to make an extra effort to wake a little earlier last year at the Aegean dream resort . By the 2nd week I was having to force myself to wake before 6am . It was still dark when I was trudging down those steps still half a sleep . Nice to see the sun rise though and actually if you dont mind the struggle it's the best time of day . There was this older guy there holidaying with his daughters family, he was always up before me sitting on a sun bed staring at the ocean and the sun rise . we used to go off and have a coffee and a chat to put the world to rights nearly every morning .Really enjoyed it and a darn sight more interesting than sitting in my hotel room listening to the snoring
If there's no sunbeds left when we get up, we'll either just go to the beach or sunbathe on lilo's in the pool
I've done it - occassionally! Last year we went away in August for the first time and I'm afraid it was a case of "If you can't beat 'em join 'em!". We were fortunate enough to have a room overlooking the pool and I recall looking out at 5.30/6 ish on our first morning and seeing the ritual begin to start. Witnessed a few with their armfulls of towels getting their spot and forcing themselves to sit and look like they really wanted to be there in the dark trying to read! It wasn't particularly warm at that time in the morning either so they'd cover themselves with a spare towel to try to stop the shivers! I only went down on the last 3 days of our holiday, as we'd had a car prior to that and explored the island a bit. Earliest I went down was around 7 and I would agree it is a lovely time of day, very peaceful. What amazed me was the families who came and bagged their beds, in the same spot every day for a whole fortnight, not even seeing a different view of the pool let alone the country they visited. I know it's each to their own and I know in the past before the kids came along I probably did it myself most days but I must say that my holiday was far more enjoyable for all of us by having a bit of variety. Come on folks...be adventurous, even if it's just choosing a different 'spot' some days and don't be annoyed when someone like me dares to bag 'your' beds on the odd occasion
