thanks for the info.i will post my review when i return.looking forward to my first trip in malta.hopefully the weather will be ok in april....nick
I am thinking of booking the Solana for October 2006 and would also appreciate hearing from anyone who has stayed there. It seems very good value for money. I have already purchased my flights with Air Malta and will be booking my rooms with the hotel directly.
i am staying at the solano hotel, first week of april.i will post a review when i return.hopefully the weather will have picked up a bit by the time i go,it's looking a bit dodgy at the minute.still beats being at work :).....nick
I haven't actually stayed at the Solana but I can give you a little idea what it is like, quite nice, in my opinion.
The Solana and the Pergola, both at Mellieha just around from the corner from each other have the same owners.
I live in Malta, but went for a short break at the Pergola (you can find my review on this site) last November. We were offered either to stay at the Pergola or the Solana for the same price and guests at either hotel could make use of all the facilities at both the hotels. We went and had a look around the Solana while we were staying at the Pergola, it is a similar standard. Yes, they are good value, to be honest the price to stay a night there half board is about the same as you would expect to pay for a meal out. Last month we tried to book at the Solana, but unfortuately both there and the Pergola were full, ended up going to the San Antonio instead, also a 4* but not quite as nice I thought.

The outdoor pool at the Solana is on the roof, if you find this a bit breezy, use one of the pools at the Pergola that is sheltered because it is sort of in a cliff side cave, it gets the afternoon sun and there were people swimming in it in November!
Mellieha is a nice not too touristy village, there are a few good bars with some live music, Reflections and Cross Keys at the top of the hill, or 120 bar down the hill a bit. Just bear in mind that Mellieha might not suit anyone who has a problem with hills.

If you have any spare Maltese currency left at the end of your holidays, no need to change it back, just drop it in one of the Noah's Ark collection boxes in various bars around Mellieha, or if you are shopping at Shoppers Supermarket at the top of the hill buy a tin of dog food and leave it with one of the cashiers for one of the Noah's Ark helpers to collect.

Thanks for the information. I thought that the Pergola and Solana were affiliated in some way but didn't realise you could use the facilities of both hotels. That's good to know and a bit of a bonus as well.
Tamworthlad,
Looking forward to your review. Hope it's good as I've taken a gamble and booked my rooms at the Solana for October! Enjoy your holiday and I look forward to reading your review when you return.
If you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying in October? I kept a price list for the Pergola. As I said, both Pergola & Solana were the same price in November, so I was wondering if they will be the same in October.
The rate is LM11 per person per night in a double room on a bed and breakfast basis. The rate for half board is LM 15. Hope this helps.
That's exactly the same as I have on my price list for the Pergola for October 06. As I often have family & friends visiting the island, I was also wondering if us locals are charged a different price to someone booking from overseas.
Many thanks for your help.
i've just returned from the solana.it is a nice hotel.rooms are nice and big.rooms get cleaned everyday.reception people are lovely.location is good.near good bars and restraunts.walk to the beach is down a very steep hill, that didn't bother me,but if you have trouble walking it might be.but dont let that put you off,the buses are very cheap and run about every 10 mins.now for the downside...aircon in the room was broke..tv was broke..you have to pay for tea and coffee in your room(never had to pay this before anywhere else in the world)..hotel is run by RCI holiday club(timeshare)you will be hassled everyday walking to the beach(i posted a reply on timeshare)my advice is just be firm, dont go to any managment meetings, dont get in to a conversation with the touts.just keep on walking they will get the message....we still had a really nice holiday and would return to the solana.have a lovely holiday....nick
Tamworthlad would you post your review
Thanks for the review. Just one question, did you manage to get the broken aircon and TV fixed at all? Thanks for the pointers about the Timeshare touts. I knew that the Pergola was a timeshare resort but wasn't sure about the Solana.
Will post my review when I return in November.
Goldengirl
i never told them about the broken aircon.i fixed the t.v myself.other than that the hotel is really lovely.you will have a great time...nick
