22 people were in our party in mid July this year and from information gained on internet forums it was the Beachcomber Bar we headed for first. We don't like eating as a group of 22 as one would never expect normal service and only once did we ask the Beachcomber if they could cope with all of us for a birthday dinner. They said it was no problem and it wasn't. We sat on tables laid for 10 and 12 and truly wasn't expecting to be fed at the same time. There was no more than 5 minutes between the first and last meal in the courses and we all had the three course menu of the day on this occasion. The rest of the restaurant was full too.Food was good and hot, staff were exceptionally friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Value for money is unbeatable and so is the view of the Med. Even what appeared to be regular drinkers were friendly and helpfull with lots of recommendations for local restaurants.
The Irish Rover was great for entertainment but it was so close to the Beachcomber there was no choice for where to eat.
The Chinese near to the estate agents Price Brown was good food, value for money and good service.
Smugglers closer to the Indalo Hotel was excellent, more upmarket you might say to the rest in that area. Of course the prices were higher but it was worth it. Booking was definitely necessary and they couldnt cope with 22 of us at once but service was good and all the staff were very friendly and professional.
The La Cabana Steak House was really good for steaks even though whatever you asked for had to go back for another minute or two of cooking but its better than being over cooked. Not a lot of choice for side dishes but the steaks are worth ordering just on their own.
Right next door is an Italian called something like Sotavoche, great Chilli Con Carne.
Also next door to the La Cabana is Music Musica, good value for money on a Wednesday and Sunday, offering a carvery eat as much as you like so if you are a really big eater this is the place. No airconditioning and a tatty looking interior makes for sitting outside best.
Viva Restaurant near to the tobaco shop was nice, service good and so was the food. Prices were higher than most but it's intimate and an upmarket sort of place and it's half the price of the uk anyway.
Mesa in the commercial center, again higher prices than most but probably the poshest menu we found in Mojacar and everything was cooked to perfection, service was second to none, one of my favs.
Someone in the Beachcomber suggested a Spanish beach restaurant that they thought was best for paella. It was called something like Menaka a few miles down a dirt track leading from Macenas Beach. You couldnt walk to it but was worth the dodgy drive. The paella was the best i've tried. Staff appologised it would take 30 minutes to cook fresh as if thats too long and apart from the flies we could have stayed all afternoon.
At the other end to the Beachcomber is Levante, a typical Spanish restaurant if you accept they do great Pizzas, Italian arent they ? but the rest of the menu I would describe as being Spanish, good food and good value for money. As for service, well its Spanish isn't it!
Cant think of any others worth mentioning but we were there for only two weeks, we will be back though.
Keith.
