Briar,My perfect day out would be to Atlas or Willerby factory in Hull where the caravans are made!.I loved your friends report of her trip in morroco and wish I was brave enough to go there in a caravan or motorhome. We have become static caravaners now and can hardly wait until its warmer so we can go to it.

Where did you go for New Year Briar? We`ve been thinking about going away in the winter, but it`s difficult to find decent looking sites open all year round, plus hubby`s getting soft in his old age, "I don`t like being cold", AAAAAH!

Yes we do have blown air heating, and our caravan is very warm, I`ve just got a very soft husband, don`t know where the macho man I married has gone to! I`d love to go somewhere by the sea in winter, I love walking on clifftops or on the beach in cold stormy weather, but I think I would be on my own!

Yes Briar, I did look at the link with the caravan pictures, trying to decide whether to change my wallpaper or not. I agree, Sandy Gulls does look nice, I`ve been looking on the net, but they don`t seem to have a proper website, so there`s not much on there.

Hi ladies!

Those pics were interesting.

I used to go caravanning with my parents in the late 60s and 70s. We started off with a Fisher Holivan, only 9ft long (good job we were all short!) which my Dad made improvements to inside, and my Mum made new seat covers and curtains for, and which took us all on a trip to Istanbul in 1970.

Then he got a second hand Cheltenham Fawn, which was his pride and joy, and some more room for us, at 11ft long! He even made a bunk bed for me, for it, (as it was nominally 2 berth) out of oak. It used to take my Mum and me ages to put the bunk bed up the first night we were away, (bits stashed under the seats, behind the seats etc.!!) but by the end of the holiday we were like those forces teams dragging the cannons over an assault course (forgotten the name  ) and had it down to a fine art! We went to Spain and Italy with it, and also some rallies, trips in UK of course.

When my Dad retired, he and Mum sold it and got a motorvan instead (which he fitted out from scratch!) but I have lots of happy memories of caravanning.

Unfortunately my hubby is not interested in it at all, doesn't want to drive on holiday, and since he's 6ft tall I guess it's not so practical unless you tow a monster van. T

This link below is the only picture of a Cheltenham I could find...

Briar, our caravan is sited in beautiful Teesdale near the village where Hannah Hauxwell lives. It on a farm although all the animals went after the foot and mouth outbreak in 2001.The view from our lounge window looks towards the lake district with nothing in between apart from stunning scenery. We have been there 20 years now and started off in a 25 year old static that we gutted.I bought 32 yards of tapestry from the market in Kusadasi and covered the seats!.We now have a Cosalt Devon which is home from home(not as much fun) as it has CH,DG and a full size bathroom including a bath.I have kept an album over the years and often look back to "the good old days".To be there during the week when every one is at work is heaven.Theres only us and another 4 couples who have become close friends over the years. My friend has a Carlight tourer and she has spent many winters in her caravan but has gone to Benidorm for 6 month the last 5 winters even though they are now both in their 70s!.I think I love caravans so much because when we were first married my husband was in the army in Germany and our 1st married quarter was a lovely caravan which was luxurious in its day.

Have you read the 4 page report on the couple who took the caravan to Morocco last Winter

Briar I can't find it!!!

I've only got 3 pages in the caravan forum???

Would you like me to post anything about our trip to Istanbul, or would it be off -topic?

Jay trip - your van sounds in a lovely location, I remember seeing some of the programme about Hannah.

Number - hope you find somewhere noce to go, we never went in the winter, didn't have heating and things in those days!!!

Hi Jaytrip I did a little research the one with the train loaded with the caravans was around 1967 when you say 1967 it doesn' t sound so long ago..........but when you look at that it looks so ancient in comparison to the vans of today, they were heading into the Seaside Resort of Skegness.

That area is now a coach park and Tesco's

and I'm jealous of htat road trip through Morocco had to stop reading it as I got more Stir crazy as our van is still out of action --- until this coming weekend that is as we've got a temporary repair so we can get away
Bailey "lost" our order and cheque so the new panel won't be here until end of February

BUT thanks to the repair shop I use we can now get out to York for me birthday weekend jollies
