It's a nice hotel. close to the beach but I think they're having a laugh with those prices. If it's just one night, perhaps they charge a premium. I would shop around a bit!

I'm sure you have seen them already but just incase here are the reviews we have.

Hi Ya

It's between them both, if you look on Johnthemap you will find it. If you know where Bobs inn is, its across the road & down the lane. We stayed there last year & its a lovely hotel, if you need to know anything about this hotel just ask & I'll try to help.

Hi again

Sorry, just re read your question & realised you have already looked on the map. I would say its nearer to Candolim.

We booked out of Thomson brochure & our friends booked with another company, (can't remember who) there were only 2 reps at the resort & Thomson was a lot cheaper.

Toe.
How much are you paying...did you get a price by email? Want to stay a few days in March, not a week or normal package.
I've stayed there a few times but always through independent agents. Always a lot cheaper than British or DIY and I'm not happy about the $40 a night quoted this time...

Ameliajane...
Did you go after the 'refurb' ? Can you tell me what it's like?

TIA

Also the hotel has a great tailor on site called Mac,we got 4 made to measure silk and cotton shirts and I got cashmere made to measure suit for under £200, really good value, have a great holiday,Ian B

Barter

You can barter hotel prices down, even by e-mail, although you wont get as much off as if you were standing in the foyer.

Tell them you'd love to stay there because you've heard good things/ loved it last time/ it is a special place for you etc. etc. but you can get similar grade of accommodation for 30% less just down the road. To be perfectly honest I'd start at 50% of their price and remember you don;t have to look them in the eye when you say it if it's an e-mail so there's no embarrassment factor to take into account.

The worse they're going to say is no but I guarantee they'll come back with an alternative price.

You should get somewhere between 15% and 20% off without too much trouble.

We've just booked the Prazeres in Candolim for 1300 rupees for a double room per night. Admittedly it's not as nice a hotel, it's a 2*+ and the Sonesta is a 3* but it just goes to show what you can get if you ask.

We stayed in Sonesta in Jan 06 and had a great time. My husband and I had the Geetanjali room which was really fantastic! The rest of the rooms are pretty average but a good price, especially since you probably won't be in the rooms much. What I liked about this hotel is that it is in between Candolim and Calungute beach so it's a little bit less busy and cleaner at the beach. Perfect for us since we spent most of our time in the water.

Does the Geetanjali room look just the photo they have on it on their website?

Yes, it does. Our friends and family thought who stayed in the other rooms found it nice and clean as well. Their only complaint really was that the shower didn't have much pressure. We had no problems in our room.
