Depends what you are looking for Robertk?

Is the food the most important or is it the view or atmosphere?

Sure there will be plenty of recommendations to follow. Also have a look at the top of the forum for restaurant recommendations, there are loads in there.

Thats not fair Ujpest, they are not to know!

I would recommend The Jompra, about 8 euros in a cab, near Salgados. Wonderful food, classy restaurant and fantastic service.

I can second the Jompra in Vale de Para(great service). If willing to travel try O'Mariniero(Semarias I think), Museu de Salgados or Loiusianna in the Old Town overlooking the beach(nice roof terrace and fish dishes). There are also some nice beach bars that stay open and although quite rustic, would be nice for the noise of the waves and the sunset I suppose, and the fish of course.

Happy hunting

We ended up in a restaurant at the sea front in the old town. Right on the corner at the end. It was lovely, even the thunderstorm couldn't put us off. :). The chicken cataplana was superb.

Casa de fonte near the tunnel in the old town. the back entrance is up the right hand steps at the tunnel. it doesn't look very nice, but you walk through to the terrace & its lovely

or o'tunnel on the other side!

both are lovely

A little bit pricey compared to elsewhere (€5 for a Sagres compared to €3.50 in the hotel) but very very nice.

Sorry UD, I was really just thinking of the extortionate prices in the bar, and have not ever darkened their corporate door, so I was being a bit unfair. €5 for a caneca = €6.25 a pint, many places charge €3.00 a pint, certain bars charge €2.25 a pint - naming no names ;) ...

Thats a bit of a rip off in anyones language.

Hi Robertk,

Which end of the Old Town? Was it O Penedo at the western end past the Rocamar?

Glad to hear you had a great evening for your special celebration! :love

Hi Algarveaddick,
Enjoyed our evening at Floyds last Wednesday. Good quiz - great result!! :cheers

Where is Jompra? We're around that area all the time and we've never seen it. Want to try it the week after next. And a phone number would be great if you have it. Thanks very much.

On the road out of Albufeira going west turn left about 100 yards before the O'Barco restaurant/supermarket, heading down towards the beach. The Jompra is on the left about 500 yards on the left just after the O'Gale restaurant. Its a big white place with a circular entrance if I remember right. Nice food and service although not been for a few years. If travelling now for dinner we prefer the Museu de Salgados.

Lummie spot on with directions Roseweb, I have some of their cards in the bar, so will PM you the number (when I remember) :duh .

Lummie, Sergio - who started the Museu with Rui - now has The Jompra as his own place and the new chef is brilliant, give it a try next time. :tup

It was next to the fisherman's beach. I can't remember the name of the restaurant but it's on the corner just before the Ruina restaurant.

Lummie and Algarveaddick - Thanks for the directions to Jompra. We'll try it out next week.

RobertK - ah yes, it sounds like Tasca do Viegas if it's on the same side as A Ruina. Or maybe Cabana Fresca if it's just across the street - a favourite of ours!

I had homemade Apple Pie in Tasca do Viegas and it was fantastic, excellent fish soup as well. If the restaurant was at the other end of that row I think it would be the Louisianna.

The restaurant was at the opposite end from the Louisiana, right on the corner, it had a large terrace.
