Ive havnt been to Lykia but have a feeling nothing is going to match up to its facilities if you can manage to find the extra money.

based on the reviews I think the ADR would still be a good choice as it sounds great for children/teenagers with lots of activities/watersports included in the A/I . the food sounds good but my only worry would maybe be the size of the pool which obviously is not going to come anywhere close to whats on offer at lykia and dont think there are waterslides etc. it will however have some +++s being that you are within walking distance of shops/bars and you wont get lost in its size . if you are not worried about being isolated maybe there would be more a choice of hotels with better pools and watersides down in the med side i.e belek, lara.

hard choice but I think as long as you choose somewhere with goods reviews you will still have a great time but in a different way :D . and if you go for the cheaper option you can start saving for lykia again the following year or maybe have 2 holidays for the price of one

I know lynnewestie, I'm really struggling with what to do. I keep toying with the ADR but my main concern is the elder two boys, especially the then 11 year old, would he be really disappointed I keep asking myself especially as it 's an odd age and he loved all the activities that were on offer.

I'm really kicking myself as before I went I could get a good price for Lykia, plus there were a few other hotels at Lara that i really fancied, the Delphin Palace and the WOW resort but they're all booked now. I'll certainly be booking early for 2009!!

Pamplemousse, have you tried looking at the DIY option? I booked cheap flights with Aegean FLights which will have gone up in price now, but it may be worth looking into. http://www.somewhere2stay.com have Lykia on accommodation only for next August (when we are looking to go) for £2604. Not all sites have their prices out yet, so I am holding on for now.

pm. as long as children make friends they will have a great time wherever and happy children = happy parants :D you may even find they make friends a lot easier in somewhere that isnt as big .

just trying to think on the positive side for you . as sarong says dont loose hope on Lykia yet you may be able to do it cheaper than you think. You can make it your challenge .

I agree with Lyn, if you cant manage Lykia, you will probably be better off with one of the hotels on the Med coast rather than ADR. Most of them seem to have a few slides and more than one pool. What about the Hemera or the Arum they get brill reviews. The Sun Zeynep has slides as well.

When I was considering the ADR one of my main reservations with it was the small size of the main pool plus the pool surround being cramped. When I was reading reviews of it on trip adviser last year that aspect was mentioned a few times.

Pamplemousse - I think Lykia have spoiled us too (and the children). Apart from Lykia I have no idea where we want to go next year. I have had my eye on Adams Beach Hotel in Cyprus for the last couple of years but that is about the same price as Lykia but just for B&B. Looked at Crete also but can't seem to find the right hotel in the right resort. Carribean would probably match Lykia but wouldn't want to go in summer holidays. We usually book our holiday about six months before we go but I have been pricing up Lykia for next year now.

We have to go in school holidays next year (daughter in middle school) so obviously it will be more than we paid this time (£2,188 2 weeks June). At the moment, the cheapest I have managed to find for 2 weeks next year 21 July is £3,800 for 4 of us and I know hubs will not want to spend that amount so am very disappointed. But I do have a glimmer of hope - when I booked this years holiday in February I also checked the cost for 2 weeks in school holidays and it came in at just over £3,000.

I have decided that before booking anything else for next year, I am going to keep checking the prices for Lykia and if it comes down to that £3,000 mark, which it might possibly, even if I have to wait till next spring, I will book it then and if not ..... I'll have to think about going somewhere else ..... living in hope, but thankful for any sort of holiday really :)

anice - it's a wonderful place isn't it? I've decided against pushing it for Lykia next year, £4200 for us, and am hoping to get a good deal as soon as the 2009 brochures come out.

Definately going back to Turkey though, Lara is pretty certain due to the 5* hotels. Most are coming out at between £3600-£3800 for us but they are AI. I'm torn between The DelpHin Palace, Royal Wings and Topkapi Palace. The Kremlin Palace is a bargain at £3300, would have to do 2 seperate bookings to get 2 fre kids though, but the reviews aren't as good as the others. It's driving me mad, just wasnt to sort it and book it now.
