We are going to Palma Nova i late Sept. and would like to know where the really good (expensive) restaurants are located. Are they close to the marina next to son Caliu?
I am trying to choose between Viva Palmanova which is a hotel more towards Magaluf or the Hotel Son Caliu.
Can anyone tell me how far it is to walk from any of these to hotels to the more "upmarket" restaurants. I think Son Caliu is up on a hill.
Thanks,
Tina
Two of the best restaurants in the SW of Mallorca are in Bendinat which is about 3 miles away:-
Di Benedetto has a massive reputation that is actually well deserved. You would meet the owner Giorgio in what is quite a large but still intimate spot. I have eaten there 4 or 5 times (usually when I want to impress visitors!) and have never been disappointed. (Italian/East End owned! [you will know what I mean if you talk to Giorgio.])
Across the road is a newcomer Real de Vallon that is really trying hard and achieving great results. My view is that it is a little cheaper than Di Bens but the quality of the cooking is equally high. (British Owned)
In Palma Nova there is a very good Thai restaurant called Quest for Cuisine that is well worth a try too.
I think it's fair to say that the real expensive Restaurants are situated in Puerta Portals or in Palma itself. Around the Marina at Portals are shops and restaurants that often don't show the prices on the basis that "if you have to ask the price, you probably can't afford it!"
One of our favourite restaurants is Seymours in Palma Nova, which is central, and quite reasonable.
To answer your question Tina, I would stay at the Son Caliu side of the resort, which is nearer to the better restaurants that you refer to.
Cheers
Adam
le petite bistro in palma nova does excellent french cuisine, real dion next door /more british but still very good. ciros across the road from these has a nice view over the sea and pretty good sea food. pardos in magaluf very good seafood but has let itself down a bit by using shop bought starters rather than the homemade stuff they used to do. all of these work out at around €70 -€90.for a 2 course meal with wine and aperitifs for 2. which is pretty expensive by mallorcan standards.
The Restaurante Tristan in Puerto Portals is well worth the short taxi ride for a special meal. Its one of the few Michalin starred restaurants on the island, and serves superb cuisine. Its location overlooking the marina is wonderful too. Expensive but well worth it...dress up and enjoy!
