My son bought me a smart phone last year and whilst it had all the 'gadgets and apps' on it, I found it near impossible to send a text, because the keyboard was so small and my fingers were too big for the space allowed for each letter.
We tried to adjust the keyboard to make it bigger and I didn't want to offend him, so I suffered it for a year - I'm on PAYG and I wouldn't be using the internet to 'eat' money, and EE kept sending me texts offering me xyz if I paid £10 a month.
£10 X 12 = £120 a year....they've got to be joking, I can put 10 quid on my phone and I've still got 9 quid 6 months later.
As you can guess, I'm really not into phones.
So, I went out and bought a phone that just phones and receives text, and whilst I feel like I've taken a big step backwards in technology, I love this new phone and it doesn't look old fashioned and feel like you've got a brick in your hand.
I'm very impressed with the battery life too, so if you know someone who is like me and just wants a basic phone, I highly recommend this one - Dave dumped his siemens phone last week and bought one like mine.
I paid £20 for mine with some vouchers I had - Dave paid £25 - both from Tesco.

Read that article today and I must admit I still prefer my old phone to the Galaxy S3 that hubby bought me over a year ago that I still struggle with !!!!!!!
I think this is so true. I am fed up with the thing on charge the whole time!
My old Nokia used to last about a week before I needed to charge it
As I walked past a pnone shop last week they were outside giving out leaflets after I politly said no thanks I still have a life they were still looking at me when I was twenty yards up the road
Sad really when you become addicted to candy crush.

Yep, that was another good reason to get rid of mine

I have used a dumb phone for work for years out here in Qatar you cannot see the screen on these so called smart phones the sun is too bright, the number of times i see people trying to find shade to read the phone makes me laugh.
I reckon we put about £30 per YEAR! on our PAYG mobiles - £30 per month contracts -I don't think so!!
Hi there are no PAYG phone in Qatar they are all sold sim free easy to switch sim cards while in the UK which i hope to be on June 19 retiring for the 3rd time!!

I am like you sanji. Last Autumn mrs Hi de Hi came home with a leaflet from Tescos with a deal on smartphones. basically if you had 2 then there were extras on the contract you could get. The contract was £7.50 a month each. We were both on PAYG but our normal phones were getting a bit long in the tooth and so we were thinking of changing anyway. So we went ahead. Like you I couldn't get on with the phone. It needed charging every 24 hours regardless of whether I had used it or not. For a start I couldn't turn off the predictive text! In six months I must have accessed the Internet twice! Anyway a few weeks back Mrs H threw my hoody in the wash and the phone was in the pocket! 2 weeks drying it out but no good, it was dead. So I spent a tenner on a standard phone, put the sim in and bobs your uncle, I am relatively happy again. I just need to get to the end of the contract so I can switch back to PAYG. The only thing I miss from the smartphone is the camera which to be fair was rather good.
We've both been on PAYG phones since we first got a mobile (years ago) - Dave just wanted his for me to be able to get in touch with him if we were not out together and for emergencies-
Last year T-Mobile cut him off because he hadn't used it for months- he had a lot of credit on it and the cheeky boogers charged and took 10 pounds to reconnect.
So now we mark a date on the calendar to remind us both to make a call or send a text to each other. You can resist the sales pitch/contracts and not become a slave to marketing forces.

Hold the phone! That old phone you meant to get rid of, the one stuck in the back of a drawer somewhere could be worth a small fortune.
Frank.
Mine didn't work anyway for the duration of our holiday. I'd recently taken a sim only contract out with Virgin as it was a good deal & apparently if you have had a contract for less than 3 months you have to register before going abroad (I suspect incase you run up a large bill and disappear) PAYG would have been fine as I'd have been spending my own money. So I was snookered. I couldn't text home or my friends in the resort.
