thanks andy....was worried as son flying out to get wed on the 5th....and were following out on the 12th...looks like no real problem.....I ve not long posted on thomson airways asking for news about the strike....then found link to here.

one thought I had was if incoming flights cant get passengers through immigration ....they may delay sending incoming flights.....and they are the planes that turn round and take departing passengers ....maybe wont affect morning flights on the 5th, but wonder if things will grind to a halt as the backlog of incoming passengers build up.....a lot of people come through immigration every hour....and there is only so much space in which to queu or wait....and people cant be left on the runway

cant see the airlines bearing the cost of sending empty planes for outbound passengers

I'm so glad that's a little clearer. Hubby thought that was the case but I had to find out from the 'experts' on here ;)

Just one more thing. When leaving the country, dont you now have to fill personal information about yourself?

Mum and dad went to prague the other week, i had to fill in passport information etc before they left. This is to make aware that the goverment know your leaving the country for a few days, weeks etc.

Nick 1992,

:offtop It's Advance Passenger Information (API) you are thinking of. It's only applicable to certain destinations at the moment and is being rolled out to several other throughout the year. If you need to provide the information, the airline / tour operator will let you know. Some take the details at check-in so you won't need to do anything.

So people don't worry you will get on your flight and be off on your holiday. :tup

so tonight I can sleep soundly - yippee -don't mind a delay on the way back - especially if it means an extra night ;)

Nick 1992 , as Dazbo pointed out the personal information from passports is API, this is for the benefit of the country you are flying to , as they want to know exactly who they are letting in ! although i did like your idea of the information being for our government to make them aware that we are leaving the country for a while, :think no doubt an "inquiry" will be set up to find out where and why we are going :offtop

Tweetie Pie, i'm sure the airlines will keep to their schedule, to be honest once they've landed the passengers its not really their problem. i would imagine that there might be a longer sweaty wait at passport control , but at least when you get through you won't have to wait as long for your bags :rofl silver lining in every cloud ! :cry

Apart from API being required by the countries who signed up to the Schengen Agreement, (we didn't)
It's not as far fetched as you might think it is, you're already being tracked by this government, they've been tracking your movements and compiling details on a database, and even though it is against EU law and human rights, they seemed determined to carry on with the "official" e-borders project.
The Home Office has already signed a contract with U.S. company Raytheon Systems to run the computer system and everyone will have 53 questions to answer before you're allowed to leave the country.

Just a reminder that this topic is about proposed strike action, there are discussions elsewhere about API requirements.
