Trying to book for half term, around 20 October 2007 for 10/11 nights staying at the Pioneer Beach in Paphos. There is availability but Im not paying around £2900, thats more than we paid in July for 14 nights stopping at the same hotel
Last year we stayed there and paid £1700 for four adults based on two rooms from Manchester, staying B&B. I fully expect the costs to have gone up but not by around 70%
Any ideas or websites I could try ?
Cheers David
I have tried portland , which is the sister to Thomson and couldnt get 11 nights, but for 7 nights it was £2300, and for 14 nights it was £2740 on the B & B option from Bristol or Luton. Cyprus is getting very expensive now, which is a great shame.
Good luck with your search
Will keep looking for you.
That was a really good price in the summer that you got. I paid just over that cost for TWO of us to stay at the Royal - who do you normally book with ?

I have no preferance who we go with as long has it a day flight. I normally book through an independant travel agent in Chorley, where I live, who have access to a lot more of the specialist tour companys. In july we travelled with Olympic.
I really want to get back over there but feel the current costs are way over the top.
Have your tried getting a quote from the hotel and then matching a flight ? That said everytime I have donme it it works out dearer than the package.
Will continue

I have always found that October half term is the most expensive time of the year to get flights to Cyprus from the UK. Even more expensive than summer. Any dates a week before or after half term are just as expensive.
Earlier in the year, I tried to book the hotel direct and arrange our own flights, but have always found like kath said, it always works out a lot cheaper to book a package.
Will keep looking
Cheers David
We were in a similar situation (up till last week). We wanted 17th Oct (ish) for 2 weeks to the Kefalos beach resort from manchester (we live in Bolton ) i tried all differant tour operators and the price came in at anything between £2700-£3300 then thomson came up with £2550 B&B, the best i could find. I then rang a girl who usually books our holiday every year and told her what i wanted but that thomson had come out the cheapest she said she probably woldnt be able to beat it as thomson had all the best deals at the moment due to them cutting out a lot of the independant travel agents and advertising on tv and the internet
She phoned me back the next day and had actually managed to find it cheaper by booking seperatly (transfer not included) £2300 for HB not much cheaper i know but enough for us to hire a car for the fortnight with the differance and now HB (not that we would use this much as we like to eat out) but there if we need it .
Have you tried On the Beach ?? not used them myself but a friend of mine has for 2 of her holidays.

Nearly managed to get one today , £2400 for eleven nights, spoke to the wife to confirm, rang the travel agents an hour later to book, it had gone up a further £400 in that hour
usually Xcel, Olypmic, Priceright on the outward and then Eurocypria to come home.
its the only way i have found to get 10/11 nights at a decent price i know its not half term but we fly 07/10/07 one way from Leeds to Larnaca with Olympic then one way back with Euro Cypria Larnaca to Manchester,
We do this quiet a lot and the price was £351 for 2 passemgers all in.
I agree, flight to Cyprus in October are just as expensive as July and August. I've booked to go half term week October 2008 with xl.com from Luton. I booked as soon as the flights were released and they cost just under £200 per person. I think that's the trick with all these airline companies; you have to know when they're going to release their flights and book as soon as you can. I book the accommodation separately and find it works out cheaper for me.
XL as usual have cancelled almost all flights during Sept & October despite several 100 people already being booked
I guess the Half Term flights are okay because they'll have made the most money from them and probably have full flights
We booked flights mid jan to cyprus from bristol
for 4 people we paid 1500 with xl and with thomson
we booked the same last year and flights were only 1000 for the 4 of us.

Maybe try a villa instead this time, lots out there on the various sites.
An update on my previous post about flights to Cyprus in October. XL has just cancelled my flights - £200 per person - thought it was too good to be true! Looked around for alternatives, but it's all too expensive.
I booked with Thomsonfly yesterday for the 22nd Oct for 10 nights at a cost of £449 each. They were the only ones available on that date. Very expensive.
Before our kids left school we often used to go to Cyprus half term in October, mostly as a package holiday as it was cheaper. Quite often we would go for 2 weeks and leave the week before half term as it cut the cost considerably.
It's a lot easier now we are not tied to school holidays.
We are flying from Luton, but there were no other flights available on this date from the others local to us - ie Stansted, Birmingham or East Midlands. We are tied to the dates as our 16 yr old who is coming with us is doing A levels and we did not want to take her out of school for more than three days. We struggled to get this flight. Staying at the St Georges Garden Hotel Suites Hb - so the hotel is cheaper than the flight. We could only get the flight through an internet site - I won't name it as i don't know if you are allowed to on this site. It was really odd as this flight does not show available on these dates if you type your details into Thomsonfly.com availability section, but further phone calls to Thomsonfly confirmed they were available - hardwork! This hotel is in Thomson brochure and when I enquired for availabilty with them, there were no flights availablefor the dates wanted, so we could not do the package holiday, though looking at the prices in the brochure - it would have been much the same.
