I know what you mean Yummy, it is worrying what could happen - but you can protect yourself as best you can and keep with you until you get to check in and make sure you have a TSA style lock on the case, of course these can be broken into but it helps a little.
Thanks, what is a tsa lock?

Also available at a lot of good shops in your high street that need the trade.
You take your case, get it wrapped before you check it in and that's it. Unless someone has another machine somewhere in between it seems pretty tamper proof.
Shell
Limassol, Cyprus
Shell I've often seen cases shrinked wrapped but I assume (stupidly) that people had done it themselves, I did not realise that it was done professionally
They're done on a machine, but I don't think this service is available at all airports.
Found this
tip i got from a young German couple .. take your own roll of cheap cling film to wrap your case
I have noticed, the cling film comes in differrent colours, which act as a deterent as well
I believe marco polo airport, venice, there cling film is red in colour

wiz
I'm not sure that would work, it's much thinner than the plastic wrap that the airports use and it would easily come off with any rough handling.
I had my case wrapped when returning from Havana( no choice) and the plastic wrap was so thick and tightly wrapped that I had great difficulty removing the wrapping when I arrived back in the UK, in fact I needed scissors which of course were packed in my case. Luckily I was staying overnight in an airport hotel and was able to borrow a pair from reception.
it dose work did it ourselves on the last holiday, just have to put enough on
So what would happen if you were then asked to open your case?

Would it reaaly matter, you would be at the end of your journey, unless you were catching another flight
so basicly, you have arrived home, picked up your suitcase, and gone through the green channel, only to be stopped, and you have been stopped, as an exray of your case has thrown some thing up, maybe your 1000 cigerettes
Not neccesarily , at Honolulu airport my case had to go through an xray before checking in (happens at quite a few airports) and the security employee made me open the case because she couldn't work out what something was that she could see in the xray. It was just a hard backed book in a cardboard cover and luckily my case wasn't plastic wrapped.
