If you're exercising loads and eating healthily but not losing weight there is a good chance that you are replacing fatty tissue with muscle which weighs more by volume. So bin the scales and get a decent tape measure and concentrate on inches lost rather than pounds. It's perfectly possible through exercise to GAIN weight but lose inches as a result of toning your muscles up. In the end this is actually the much healthier option. Paradoxically, if you don't exercise it's possible to be at your target weight but still be carrying fatty tissue compared to someone who might be above their target weight but actually measures less and has a much better muscle to weight ratio. Fatty tissue is the killer, not weigh per se.

Well it was weigh in today at SWand I lost 2.5lbs!!! So that's 5.5lbs in 2 weeks so I'm well pleased.
Now, that was very interesting SM. I am usually a regular attender at the gym and do 3-4 classes a week of fairly high impact aerobics. I was getting a bit fed up because although I am well toned in the arms now I couldn't lose weight.
Since I haven't been for the last 3 weeks due to bad knee (most probably needs an arthroscopy to remove all that loose stuff floating around) I haven't done much exersise and I have lost weight
So it follows that if you overdo the exersise you won't lose weight. As you say , it's turned to muscle.
I'm going to start by walking now and then see if I can manage a class or two.

Well what can i say I just cant say no to food and drink. Today is just as bad, Been naughty again (dont think there is help for someone like me )Got my sons BBQ tomorrow and although i know the meat is fine i really dont think i should be eating the pasta that i already have on my plate(its not even made yet )Enough about me. How you all doing??Hope the weigh ins are telling you what you want to hear(apart from the gym bods) I do agree that muscle weighs heavier than fat but i always thinks it sooooo disapointing when you get on those dreaded scales to find they have either not moved or even worse they have gone the wrong way but as sm says try the tape measure you might be surprised. Well done Kazee! Its a great feeling isnt it, thats what I've lost over the last two weeks but now I'm that I have lost some tomorrow as all my hard work will be undone
Val - when you do your exercise are you cardio-vascularly challenged? Do you get a good sweat up and feel your ticker racing? I know you swim alot. A good cardio workout will boost your metabolism. I use the cross trainer, the stairmaster and the treadmill for this. I don't run on the treadmill just powerwalk on an incline. Don't despair
Totally agree SM, thing is unlike a lot of peeps on here I don't have weigh ins and don't have scales. I get weighed once every 3 months at most by the nurse at the surgery (contraception stuff, yawn). I'm going by clothing but still to get back into certain stuff. You're right though - muscle weighs twice as much as fat. Just don't get fat and muscle and you'll be alright!
Joolz, when i swim, my ticker is racing umpteen to the dozen, especially as i am such a poor swimmer and always manage to look like i am drowning anyway I generally find that whatever exercise i do, i can tell i have had a good work out ( heart rate, quickening of breath etc) but i very rarely work up a sweat.. ( not even in a sauna!! ) When Rob finally fixes the wheel on my bike, i will be cycling which is far more preferable to me than swimming up and down a pool..i am not even going to bother with weigh in today..especially as i know that tomorrow afternoon, i will wreck everything by being in the pub with my england shirt on and plenty of vodka for company while i watch the footy on the big screen..Come on England!! Was there 50 calories on Vodka? Ok.. so 10 of them and 1 bottle of tonic and that should replace a meal..

Morning Ladies, well I'm depressed today, managed to gain 2lb - dont think I'll lose half a stone by the time my hols come round next week - oh well at least I've lost some I suppose, just not as much as I would have liked
don't despair blue max.. you probably won't lose the 8lbs you want to lose for next week.. but congratulate yourself for getting this far and then go enjoy your holiday..

In total I have lost 22lbs in 13 weeks, hoping to get to the 2 stone mark before I go on holiday at the end of June.
I have only been to the gym 3 times in 3 weeks, which is poor, but well chuffed that the weight is still moving.
bye for now peeps, got to go and help hubby with the bbq. Oh well I shall have to eat a burger, steak and sausage wont I or he may think its personal.
