any reason you've decided against the Santana?

I've not stayed at the Summerville although I belive it's owned by the same people as Valentine's Retreat, which according to Jewel-in-the-Crown is a higher star hotel than the Summerville.

There are a number of recent good/excellent reviews about the Summerville on Tripadvisor which I personally wouldn't use as a guide to booking - IYSWIM.

I've stayed at VR and it was clean - I've done a couple of reviews going back a few years.

If I had the choice of Santana, VR or Summerville, depending on the price difference, I'd book the Santana like a shot.

Apologies - I've just checked the J-I-T-C website and the Summerville is classed as 2, same as Valentine's Retreat.

It is always cheaper than the VR though (which is how I got confused).

The Summerville doesn't appear to have air conditioning, A/C is included in the price for VR and Santana - and if you're going in April that might be something that you'll want to consider as it will be pretty hot & humid.

Stayed there quite a few years ago, i remember rooms fairly small, cleaned daily, not a bad location, situated halfway between Whispering Palms road and Fort Aguada, usual friendly staff.
Good sized swimming pool in the gardens if you like that.
The one downside......BEDS.
Now i expect there to be a world of difference between a kitchen worktop and a mattress.
Not so in the case at the Summerville.

Thanks for the help. I have been busy welcoming my grandson into the world!!!! I think we are going to go with Santana but there is a £300 price difference if we go to the Summerville. I however like a comfy bed.

Re the matresses in the Santana - the room we were in had some sort of foam matress, definitely not a sprung type.
Whether it was memory foam I don't know, but I'm a very poor sleeper away from my own bed but I slept really well at the Santana.

Is the £300 extra per person or in total?
I really would have a think whether having air conditioning (at no extra cost in the Santana but apparently not a payable option at the Summerville) would be worth that extra.

Maybe you could ask for opinions from people who've stayed in April.
The latest we've stayed is mid-March i.e. left in mid-March and it was getting hotter and more humid by the day.

£300 in total but without air conditioning the other half says Santana.
Thanks

I've just been on Tripadvisor and seen an update to a thread about someone being 'bumped' from the Santana because of over-booking.
Here's the thread:
http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297605-i9001-k4104273-Overbooked_Santana_Beach_Resort-Candolim_Goa.html

It was also (sort-of) discussed here:
http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=149552

The booking was with Cosmos and it was over Christmas, someone posted that they had also been moved from the Santana because of over-booking during the same period.
It also happened to someone else in November, I remember that as it was just before we were going to the Santana.

I've booked 3 times with Cosmos at the Santana and never had any problems but I just thought I'd mention it.
