I have just come back from Goa for 3 weeks and have been before and always get a lovely tan, but this time I don't have much of a tan on my body just on my face and arms. I always use the Piz Buin once-a-day sun cream but it didn't work on my body this holiday so am i doing something wrong? Should i change the suncream i use, or is a spray better? I am going to Goa again in December and need to get this right. Is Avon a good make as order lots from them?

Can any of you experts out there help me please? :)

I feel Black fox's olive oil coming back to haunt me on this one, but, :rofl Can anyone either from Sharm or from the UK recommend a sun oil that has not got carotene/carrot oil in it. I am allergic to carrot oil and had to have an injection as had a severe allergy. Makes a change not to have an injection elsewhere, but hey thats how the cookie crumbles. I am using it on top of my ambro solaire milk to brown me off. Used one before but cannot remember the make.

Any ideas :think

Hi Michelle - I used what you are referring to years ago in Spain and I was soooo ill. Got really bad sunstroke and I tan really easily. Never touched the stuff since. It was like someone poured a boiling kettle over me. I use Piz Buin tan intensifier which is brill. Then use Garnier aftersun tan maximiser and always come back really brown.

A very well known magazine gave Sainsbury's and Asda own brand sun creams a good recommendation,we always use Piz buin once a day or Ambre Solaire transparent gel,we don't burn with either, have stocked up on both when Tescos had it cheap but as we are away a lot this year I may try asda or sainsbury to see whether they are as good as we're told.Sainsbury's had some Ambre Solaire on offer today in Norwich, just over £3.oo for F30.T.

hi Oscarben

is the Ambre Solaire transparent gel a good one to try for a change, as I think will have to change the make for my next holiday as have been using Piz Buin once-a-day for a few years now. My face and arms tanned but not much on my body and no tan at all on my legs :que

any help much appreciated

Hi Silver Angel

We always used Piz Buin once a day on our son but sometimes just used piz buin spray on us,cos it works out expensive if you can't find it on offer, last year we also tried Ambre Solaire transparent gel
again on us just in case,I must admit I apply quite often as we don't want to burn and found it effective .I took out a subscription to a well known consumer mag last year and they compared sun creams,Asda and Sainsburys own brands were rated quite highly, more so than some of the expensive brands,Piz Buin once a day was not reviewed so I don't know whether that was good or not. This year I have bought a mixture as we are away 4 times,so we'll try each of them.I don't know if this will help you at all,I'm afraid to recommend one in case it doesn't suit you,but we've been lucky (or careful) and not burned for several years, although we have taken most holidays in May,so not scorching hot, this year we are going away in May,June,August and October so I have started stock-piling sun creams ready.T.

I'm always wary of trying different sun lotions in case theyre no good but I used some of Asda's that my daughter bought and it was excellent and a really good price! It amazes me that sun protection costs so much money, you can spend a small fortune for a family of four for two weeks! It should be cheap, then people would use more of it, or maybe even buy it in the first place, so would protect them against burning and causing skin cancer which not only is better for the person, but would reduce the costs of treatment to the NHS!

This thread has been really helpful - I'm now considering asking my GP for advice, as I think both my daughter and I actually suffer from PMLE rather than prickly heat. Daughter had it particularly badly last October, and as she might be going out to work in Turkey for three or four months this year, the last thing we want is for her to suffer with it again.
Coincidentally, my mother suffered really badly from it - to the extent that she even had to cover up in this country when it was sunny. Maybe it runs in the family...

I have eczema now, just come out over the last year (stress!) I would have used Boots, Tesco, Nivea, Ambre Solaire before, im scared to use them when away in the Dom Rep this July incase it brings my eczema out more. I have a GP appt but not for another few weeks to discuss with them (also Jabs) Anyone have any recs, or experience? Same with insect repellant, any recs for sensitive skin, but need 50% + DEET.

See im stressing, and that's not good!! :rofl
Thanks a lot

Ive had eczema since I was born and found that I have to test suncreams and insect repell but its trial and error. I have used for years now Avon's own brand of suncream and aftersun and found it to be brilliant and the aftersun is a brilliant moisturisor. I dont have any reactions at all to it <touching wood>. I can also use Piz Buin all day protection.

I think the only recommendation I can give is to test a patch of skin and see if it reacts. I know its not a lot of help especially if you do have a reaction to it but thats how I deal with it.

Hi Blondiescot

I wondered if it can be hereditary as my mother gets it too! She just stays out of the sun even in the UK. I suppose that like many skin conditions, it could be passed on. Youre natural colouring, pigment etc is from your parents so I reckon its a strong possibility. Oh dear, our poor children :(

Thanks srhjnmgn, I will try some out before we go, I think getting sensitive skin ones would be best too. Will see what GP says also.

I've just been in our local Boots and noticed that most sun tan lotions and potions are on BOGOF
(I noticed Piz Buin was an exception)

I don't know how long for though - forgot to check, sorry.

In previous years, Boots have had different brands of suncare on BOGOF throughout the summer, varying the brands every 6-8 weeks or so. The Piz Buin doesn't usually go on BOGOF until about May/June.
You usually find Boots Soltan brand is on offer for most of the year.

jaimec, I used Ultrasun on my son last year and it was the best one I have found for his eczema. I was so pleased with it and will definitely buy it again this year. It is a once a day one and can be bought in Waitrose and John Lewis. On the last couple of days he had to use Piz Buin once a day and this seemed ok for him as well.

Can't help with the insect repellant as they have always stung like mad :( Let me know if you find a suitable one.

As i have been using Piz Buin once-a-day for 3 years and have not long returned from Goa with hardly any tan, think i will change the make for my next Goa holiday in December (usually do tan there, don't know why not this time). Can anyone recommend good makes of suncreams or lotions/sprays please? there are now so many makes out there just don't know where to start, and any help is appreciated. :)
