Hi howmuch, I havent stayed at Sunset Beach but just wanted to send you a reply (as no one else had). On our first trip to Candolim in 1998 we got a really good deal and stayed at the Dom Francisco, now I believe called the Grand!! - the hotel had very bad reports and we too were nervous, when we arrived the hotel wasnt what we were used to but it was clean and very basic, but we had fabulous holiday and have returned to Goa nearly every year since. So go and enjoy, the Goan people are wonderful and will make you feel very welcome, and if the Hotel doesnt turn out to be what you expected - then there is always next year! and failing that, you can move somewhere else for very little cost.

Hi howmuch
I've not stayed at the Sunset Beach, but we have been to North Goa 6 times.

I would just bear in mind that all reviews are subjective rather than objective.
Some people pay 'peanuts' for Goa accommodation but still expect 5 star luxury standards.
India IS a 3rd world country and a lot of the accommodation reflects this.

We work on the expectation that the room will be clean - and kept clean, and that most things will work most of the time e.g. you may have occasional power cuts.

If you go with this in mind, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Hi Howmuch

We have stayed at the Sunset Beach 5 times over the last 7 years and it is by far the best hotel we have stayed in. Yes the pool is small and the water can be cold, but you've got the beach less than 5 minutes walk down the road. The standard of cleanliness has always been of the highest standard whilst we have been there, clean linen and towels everyday. Yes you do have to pay for the air conditioning, fridge and safe, and it does seem expensive, but in our opinion worth it. Have you booked with Thomas Cook because if you book the a/c with them it is really expensive, it's better to book when you get there with the hotel. The breakfast is just the basic, tea/toast and fruit juice, but they do a good selection of omelette's, toasties etc. for just a few rupees extra. The staff are all very friendly and look after you really well. We are staying in the Pretty Petals guesthouse in March which is owned by the same people and have been assured that it is of the same standard. There is two very good restaurants, one within the hotel called the Bistro, which is run by an English chef, and another next door called the Mermaid run by a Danish lady called Katarina, both are excellent but are very popular and you usually have to book. If you need anymore information regarding the Sunset please feel free to ask. Hope you enjoy your holiday.

P.S. The best rooms are on the top floor, these were added less than 2 years ago and are up to european standard, however some have no balcony and some have only got a very small balcony.

Click Here For our reviews of this hotel. Someone was there in January this year and has given the hotel a good review. Also a favourable review is there from a holidaymaker in December.

Hi We stayed here in January and would be more than happy to stay here again. We payed extra for the fridge and safe which wasnt to expensive. We prefer a fan to the air con so cant comment on the price of that but the fan was very good. Clean sheets and towels every day. The pool isnt so big but we had a cool down in it every afternoon and had it to ourselves, it seemed cold when getting in because it is so hot but once in it was very plesant. Do not worry you have chosen a nice hotel I dont remeber speaking to any one who was not happy with it! I will go instead of you if that is any help!!!!

We have stayed at Sunset beach for the last 2 years and are heading back in Mar this year. The rooms are spacious and are kept very clean. I think for a 2* it's pretty good. The pool is small, but we never used it. We always use the beach (Ganesh shack) It's cooler and only a 5 min walk away. You do have to pay for the fridge, A/C and the safe in the room but I don't recall it being that expensive. Personally I think it's worthwhile paying for A/C in Mar/Apr time as it is very hot and doesn't cool down that much in the evenings. We haven't eaten breakfast at the hotel but it looked OK to me. The staff are very friendly and it's a nice quiet location, close to lots of good restaurants.
Hope you have a good holiday.
