We used the buses loads this year, as Colleen says stick ya arm out and it grinds to a halt.
I actually prefered them to rickshaws/taxis as they go slower and the visibility is better, I ended up spotting bars and restaurants easier.
I think the idea of using buses is brilliant as it gets us more involved with the "locals" so to speak and we save money!!
Spinner the only thing Irishcolleen didnt say was that the bus doesnt stop when you flag it down at the roadside it just keeps going and you need to jump on
yes as you say surfstak when your on the bus you do see places that you say I will have to try there ......its so funny on the bus I love the calangute calangute calangute....panjim panjim panjim .....and for those who use the bus will know what I mean . I be amazed at how many locals can speak english and you always end up talking to someone on the bus because they go out of their way to talk to you .........magic its bloo.dy magic the bus is and the music and the lights.ohhhh I could go on here for ever about the bus I love them ...gemma your a gegg

This year we were sat on the way to Mapusa and the bus driver was hoarsing this bus all over the road ....then he slams the anchors on and jumps out. A guy who had been sat next to him jumps behind the wheel and takes over. 3 miles or so up the road the bus stops. A scooter pulls up, off the scooter jumps driver no.1 and back onto the bus....
All to the Trance/Dance version of "oh carol.....I am but a foooool"
No smoking
No spitting
11 standing
1000 rupee fine for not retaining ticket............what bloody ticket
lol surf
we were on our way to Mapusa, when the bus stopped in the middle of the road to talk to another bus driver. In seconds the conductor is handing out tickets to every one, I was amazed, until we got to the bus depot, and there is a ticket inspector waiting for everyone to hand him there tickets as we got off the bus. News travels fast, on the buses.
Tell me this does anybody ever get any change on the bus i always give him a ten and he has yet to give me change
collen belief this or belief this not i have seen a english man argue on more than one occassion for his 1 rupee change. sad as that is. i will name and shame him ALAN is his name and he wears a tee shirt no thank you on front and on back maybe tomorrow hes worn it for years so if you see him stone him tight butt he is.
I am always given change colleen , maybe it's because I'm an old lady who reminds them of their Granny
They have come up with 800Rs + 60Rs airport parking. This seems to be significantly more than anyone else has paid - but it is in a Toyota Qualis Jeep (3rd one down in link) so I guess that explains the price difference.

Maybe we should splash out for our first visit to Goa? If anyone else is going on the 3rd March from Manchester on First Choice to Candolim... there would be plenty of room for 4 if we booked it!
860 rups for a 45 k taxi ride isnt alot more than anyone else pays book it danno at the airport its from 690 to candolim and a jeep will be a good ride for your first trip charge your video camera and turn it on duck tape it to jeeps crash bars, close your eyes and enjoy the ride the louder you scream the faster they go. o sorry getting carried away back to the fair days . lol
Not seen too many Toyota Qualis Jeeps registered as taxis but of course i may be wrong.
The law with regards to insurance for hire and reward is very specific in most countries i have travelled.
Ordinary insurance policies will always exclude this.
Not trying to throw a spanner in the works at all
Just concerned if they will be adequatly insured for you and your family mate.
Im sure everything will be just fine but .... check anyway for piece of mind.
Happy holidays
Also an exellent idea regarding taxi sharing Searcher.
Why dont H'ters just get together and find out who arrives at same time and if possible just share the cabs .
Cracking idea too off Rob to go from arrivals to departures and intercept a cabbie dropping off from bcc and negotiate a half pricer. He has to go back anyway so might as well be full of extra passengers.

I'd be greatful of a taxi share. I land around 10.45 am ish on 16 March from Brum. I know there's a flight from Gatwick that lands around the same time. I am staying in Candolim. We got a taxi from the airport in Dec for 650 then he rode off with change for 1000! Please pm if anyone's up for sharing. Thanks
I got my change thrown down for me once, I was getting off and the driver was pulling away but the conductor wanted to make sure I got my change
Anybody have a number for a taxi from the airport ? we need a large size as there are 4 us ..... Thanks

Taxi
FIRST CHOICE FCA 048
There is a prepaid taxi office just outside the arrivals, in Goa airport, you pay for the taxi there, and it is a government official charge, just a few months ago the charge was 650 rps, it is safer to do it this way, so you won't get ripped off. When you get into the taxi just tell the taxi driver to drive carefully, because some of the drivers are complete nutters.
It was one of these taxi drivers that drove off without giving me the change!!
You shouldn't have given him any money you pay the taxi fare in the office before you get into the taxi, all you have to give the driver is the receipt, for your payment, and a tip if you want to.
