daveydw, all official temperatures are taken in the shade, this measures the true air temperature. Any temperatures taken in the sun are meaningless. I would have thought the average temp in Paphos at that time would be mid to late 30s, although I have found in the past it tends to be 3 or 4 degrees cooler than the east coast resorts.

Lets just say it'll be hot hot hot

Lets put it this way --- the UK has been about 38 degrees this week ---- when it is classed as 32 degrees in Cyprus imagine last week but about 20 degrees hotter! In the sun light it feels like you're by an open oven door ------- but its not as stuffy as the uk - its a much drier heat.

We love the place and by the sea Paphos has a superb sea breeze which helps to keep you cool - just drink loads of water (and we have a little salt on food) -- it really helps! We both carry thermos bottle carriers that you can just carry like as shoulder bag and they are superb!

You'll have a great time as long as you know that its going to be hot, hot, hot! You wpnt have to worry about taking a brolly!!!!

In may we were out there and the locals said we were having august weather, and boy was it hot!!!!

It is different, its very dry and you may wake with a husky voice the next morning, but it does also cool down at night.

Just take your time and drink plenty of non alcoholic fluids, catch a late afternoon nap and you will be fine!!!!!

Well as posted it is rather warm, as you have been experiencing in the UK recently, it is also very humid especially in the east of the island.

As for Cyprus being a dry heat this is just not the case, humidity is very high here and the norm is well over 80% all of the time in the summer months and winter too, clothes feel damp and bodies feel clammy and unpleasant, but unlike the UK we do have a cleaner air conditions if rather dusty, this is a problem here for anyone with any kind of breathing problems, do take this into consideration.

Today in Pafos it is around 86f or 30c in the shade but the humidity is awful around 88% this is not good for anyone even those like me who should be used to it...at nights it is also very warm never dropping much below 75f and your garden furniture and cars are covered in condensation, but it dries off very fast.

August brings no relief from this kind of weather here, and is the reason many ex-pats fly back to join you, mid August is even hotter than now but Pafos is slightly cooler and I mean slightly and is the reason many Cypriot's spend there holidays in Pafos, especially those from Nicosia that is of course land locked and very hot!!

Sorry Jimbox re the use of 'dry heat' --- I know that we always sweat buckets in Cyprus, but to us it never feels anywhere near as stuffy, sticky or just humid like it does here. Its been terrible in the UK over the past few months when the cloud has appeared and if you think back to your UK days it just doesn't feel as 'fresh' when its hot as it does over in Cyprus. Its so oppressive in the UK when its hot and humid - we never feel like that in Cyprus - we just fry!

I think folk in the UK at the minute will get my drift!

Well I worked in a foundry!!!! always felt like that, but the UK never gets reading's as high as here, in fact the last hour it has risen to nearly 90% humidity, maybe you feel less sticky because like me I am always jumping in the pool or the sea!!...but believe me it is not a dry heat here far from it...look on the net for readings in the UK you will be surprised just how low it is even when you feel you cant breath, I guess also it's the fact temps rarely get that high in the UK so when it does it really hurts, we have 8 months of that here..

I think this will just have to be one of those occasions that hubby calls the 'I know what I mean but no one else does!'

Now I know that you worked in a foundry I can understand how moving to Cyprus was an easy move!!!!! :rofl

Whatever - we're already booked for another 2 weeks in what we fondly call the 'cauldron' next August!

:pele

PS: We're not always in the sea or pool - if you check the Paphos Post we're the mad walkers!!!

Hi all
Just read the posts on the heat in Cyprus and we agree wholeheartedly with Jimbox about the humidity.
The heat here in England does not compare with the heat in Cyprus as the humidity over there is far greater. :sun
As Jimbox says, every morning things are full of condensation but quickly dry.
The only thing that matters is you enjoy your holiday
We are flying out on Wednesday morning :fly can't wait.
Paphos here we come!!!!! :wow
Amber and Karl :wave :yipee

I agree with Jim, too about the humidity, we hired a car and the windows were full of condensation in the mornings, as soon as we got off the plane at 10pm you could feel the humidity.
Also very very dusty!!!!!!!
Everywhere we went was dust!
we went in june and trust me it was hot, it is different than uk, one of the good things Cyprus has a breeze, dont know how my veil will stay on nxt may wen i get wed in Paphos!!!
regards furball.

Ok, I agree its more humid  - so what is it about the UK ( our City ) that makes it so awful in this weather - its been hell here for a few days and far worse than when we've been in Cyprus ---- so what makes the difference ------------------

This doesn't take into account the fact that in Cyprus you have, Keo, the Paphian Bay, cocktails and that Pafos is the closest thing to Heaven we'll find on Earth!!!!

Seriously, is it just UK City pollution????

Our cities don't have sea breeze. I expect Nicosia is as bad as London (if not worse) but most holidaymakers don't go there. The sea breezes will make the majority of Cyprus seem better as a lot of it will be open to the sea.

The air down here in Cornwall in the last few weeks has been more enjoyable than London. I travelled from Cornwall to London on one of the hottest days this year and the difference was unimaginable. With all those buildings the air just doesn't 'move'.

I'm still with Presto on the humidity though. Look at Polis on the BBC website 5 day report, and Looe Cornwall. Looe exceeds Polis relative humidity by a mile on all five days.

Yip - we are 'land locked' here - we were on the North Wales coast the other weekend and it was cool --- here in Stoke on Trent it was horrible!

I think the difference re humidity is something you can't really describe - the UK is just horrible but we don't sweat --- its just close, no air - yuuukkkkk - CYprus we just pour sweat, am with Jimbox here, have never sweated so much --------- shall we just call it a different type of humidity and be friends :kiss :kiss

I suppose sometimes countries like Cyprus are all set up for the hot weather - they have the aircon etc and in the UK we just aren't ready for it - our bedroom was 30 degrees plus last week at 11.30pm ish --- grooaaannnnnnn - that's with fans blowing all hours! Also - working in 30 degrees plus in our 'professional gear' isn't the same as being on holiday in 'holiday gear' with the aircon and the chance to just enjoy it -

I suppose we're thinkig of our other favourite Italy - have been in Italy in the Northern Lakes at 45 degrees and it was HORRIBLE with a capital H ! It was so humid and 'air less' - yuk - just like the UK ----- dunno what we call that, but Cyprus is so much fresher than that!

If anyone who works for the Met Office reads this any ideas would be helpful!

We got back last week and I found the heat here in the North East really hard to cope with and we are not landlocked (just a couple of miles to the coast from my house)
In Paphos the pace was slow , we wore holiday gear and jumped in the pool when it got too hot .we also had an air conditioned apartment and a balcony that caught the most beautiful breeze from the sea .
Here our bedroom was sweltering and at work I have to wear "corporate uniform" which is 100% polyester and does not allow the body to cool down at all.
I know which heat i would rather be in

If Cornwall is anything like it is in the Midlands there will certainly be a lot of moisture in the air ----- its been 'persisting it down' for 3 days
