My partner and I are really keen on holidaying in June and really want to go to Thailand, preferably 3/4 days in Bangkok and then a week at a Thai Beach - any area really - Koi Samui, Phuket, Pattaya or Krabi. Krabi looks a favourite.
I know this is the start of the monsoon season, can anyone who has been to these parts tell me what its like? is it just an hour or so of heavy rain each day or worse than this? and is there a particular beach area that is better, i.e. doesnt get as much monsoon, as another that it would be better to go to.
We both like to relax in the sun, with a good hotel etc. My other half is into scuba and snorkelling, but this doesnt have to be a definate for the holiday as he is quite happy chilling with a book and IPOD. I just want warm sun to sit in and maybe a couple of days out, as we want to do out sightseeing in Bangkok and were also thinking of doing a 3 day stopover in Dubai on the way out.
thanks
There are some beautiful hotels and beaches there and many good restaurants too, KS has become very busy in recent years particularly in Chaweng , if you need any more help just ask , love shirleyv x
Bangkok- it did rain a few times but never for more than an hour at a time( and not more than once a day)
Koh Samui isn't really the best of places for sightseeing. There are a few things to do but we go there mainly for R and R. After Bangkok you need it! Good hotels are in an abundance in Thailand. You can live in luxury for a fraction of what you pay here. Pick a hotel either near the skytrain or on the river, where you can take river taxis everywhere. If you pick a hotel away from both you will spend most of your holiday trying to get somewhere!!
A shower in Bangkok
Only joking- this was when we got caught up in a mini typhoon when we went to Chatachuk market! An hour earlier and it had been lovely and sunny. Two hours later the rain and floods had disappeared and it was lovely and sunny again . I hasten to add that this was not the norm for rain!

Although we didn't really rate Phuket, the weather was great, high 20's low 30's every day, sunny with a few clouds. We stayed in between Kata & Karon beach, Kata was far superior in our opinion.
In Bangkok it was a different story, it rained every day, absolutely lagged it down one evening for about 3-4 hours......
The thing with the weather is you just can't guarantee it. We booked a late deal to Corfu during August bank holiday week in 2002 (yes it was expensive) and it rained constantly for 2 days!!!
You can still have a great time though...to us it's now not all about the suntan but the experience.
Mods - can post monthly weather reports if you want for Phuket Laguna area - February, hot (over 90), couple of hours rain during the night. Some cloudy days but sun breaking through. Air con required at night!
that would be handy. If you start up a new thread I can "sticky" it.
Usually travel to Thailand between Jan and March. Never seen any rain in Phuket, Cha'am, Hua Hin, Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi or Khao Lak as well as Bangkok and various parts of Northern Thailand - most days have been scorchingly hot and bright. The only place where we encountered rain was Koh Samui in Feb - even then we had mostly bright sunny days.
we now have a weather thread- feel free to be the first to post
