Evening all,
off to Thassos on the 18th, carnt wait.
My wife wants to know will she need something thicker to wear during the evenings? will be staying in Thassos Town, been wanting to go there for some years now, finally took the plunge...
no doubt we'll be chatting to some of you lot when we arrive.
There is a good bar-food place near the harbour in thassos town called 'cheers',cheapish and very good grub.
"Cheers" goolly wont foget that one.
See also you joined on my birthday.
went to Thassos 3 yrs ago in May. Weather mixed - nice in day but cooler in evenings, everything beginning to wake up. Nice and relaxed and no mosquitos! Small island - hire a car and see it all - can do it comfortably in 2 days - one if pushed. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would go again.
Thanks Beccy
hiya just booked for golden beach in thassos what can anybody tell me about it
Stayed in Thassos Town. Went to Golden Beach and it looked nice. In fact we drove round the island - it's not a long way and the circular road is great. Loveley views and loads of historic stuff.
The trip over on the ferry was really well organised - we went with Thomsons.
Sorry I can't help more.

There are loads of reviews about the place- all good but it is very quiet with not a lot of evening entertainment( probably why you chose it?)
There are some lovely costal walks around the island, usually very close by, but hidden at the starts ! Also good snorkelling, nice tavernas, and nice people.
The journey was a dream. you just leave your cases at a drop-point outside Kavala airport, then dont see them again until your arrival at the hotel, so you are instantly on holiday. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Hi We went to Thassos last year allocation on arrival and stayed at the resort Skala Potamia next resort to Golden Beach We enjoyed every minute of our fortnight there. It is worth hiring a car and much cheaper to do independently whilst there. I think driving there was the easiest I have experienced because the roads were so quiet even Thassos town was no problem to park. Its a bit like driving round a large roundabout as there are no suitable roads accross the island but one or to mountain villages worth looking at as well as lots of beaches doted all the way round. The ferry accross is very plesant, the seagulls are very tame and feed from people's hands. We actually walked to Thassos town along the coast from the resort which was quiet a long walk but the scenery was lovely. We also did a super organised walk with a dutch lady who was very interesting and you have a picnic kind of lunch in the middle of no where which she prepared earlier! It is very nice to have a meal up in the old Town especially at the restaurant opposite the school which is called a Elenas I think or something like that. We walked along to golden beach to eat quiet often there are loads of places and we enjoyed every where we went. I will definatly return sometime. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did
Im sure youre going to love it! its a beautiful place!
Anyone know what the weather is like in Thassos during middle of June, thinking of going there next year?
Don't know about the weather in June,we went early August 2003 and it rained four of the fourteen days!Loved Thassos town!
Hi,
There are no dive centres on Thassos, infact I think I am right in saying that it is illegal to dive on thassos without permission.
There is a dive centre in Kavala, so they would probably give you more info.
I can recommend Thassos it is a beautiful island, ideal for relaxing, quiet but there is plenty to do and see.
just been looking on the web, looks like golden beach/skala potamas may not be in next years brochures i hope i,m wrong
My Mum then warned me about a ferry journey with a nine month old baby and all the luggage that brings with it.
She has never been to Thassos but goes to greek islands alot and forsees it as being horrific - what do people think?
Also can you hire cots locally - I'm imagining that this will be cheaper than the tour operators prices!
Thanks,
sarah m
We had a cot in the hotel (Galaxy in Thassos town) and as usual the locals couldn't get enough of the boy.
We found that there was some baby food to be found, but it was in one chemist and was quite limited choicewise. It wasn't such an issue due to his age though. Nappies were available in some small shops up on the top shelves in plenty of sizes.
Any questions - let me know. Hols with a baby - it's not like you used to have.

as darren said the ferry only takes 40 mins, all your luggage stays on the transfer coach.
You just get off the coach at the harbour, grab a beer from the supermarket, board the ferry, get off on thassos and get back on the coach to your hotel, easy as that
