There's some info here Lyn & Shirley:-

I'm not an expert on them as we just normally take the €'s in cash to pay for accommodation at the end of the holiday (hubby minds it not me )
I just did a search as I wondered if there was some way you could put €'s on a card, save that cards €'s until the end of your holiday in order to pay for your accommodation.
Let me know what you both think as it might be useful in the future for those of us who pay on departure
Thanks Glynis , will have a good read through later when Im home from work . I suppose the most important question is how widely are they accepted ..
Lyn, it does say that most of the cards are issued by electron, visa, mastercard etc so should be widely accepted. I'm a bit worried though that I'd load my holiday accomodation payment onto one and then the hotel will turn round and say sorry we don't accept the card.
This year we have booked directly with an hotel that the TO's don't use and I don't think the owners will understand enough English to know what I'm talking aobut if I e-mail them with the question
Might start a new thread when I get in from work this evening to see if others have used them with success.
Thanks again Glynis.
Visa rate is hovering about 1.26 at the moment!
Lyn/Shirley had a thought - how about you put your accommodation money on the card then withdraw it in cash if you have any problems with them accepting it? You'll get a pin number surely?
Now that's a really good idea Glynis as I'm a bit nervous about what sort of a rate we may get by the time it comes to paying for the accomodation on departure in the middle of August.
Make sure you get one of the better pre-paid cards as they all have different fees and exchange rates. Not a recommendation, but have a look at Travelex and Fairfx

I will have to find out more and have a good think about it. Thanks for the idea :tup
Yeah that's what I was trying to help out with, getting you both a good rate but not having to carry the cash. There maybe something I haven't taken into account as I'm just bouncing idea's around but I'm sure you'll check the details more thoroughly than I have.
I wonder if all the ATM's abroad accept them as that would be another option if the hotel doesn't. I will keep you updated.
Thanks again Glynis
Might need to have a look at this Shirley
Are you tempted or are you going to risk the exchange rate is ok when you pay with CC on checkout?
With only a few weeks to go, I'm very tempted, especially as a work colleague has done this for the last couple of years
Thanks for the link Helen , very useful. My travel euro card is the same as Tesco. I am very tempted as there are no fees on that card for either ATMs or purchases.

What do you mean Vic? I've just been to the Teso site and can only see the provision for foreign cash or travellers cheques. Have you got a Tesco pre-paid card?
I just mean the exchange rate, but yes my local Tesco does offer a pre paid card. Though not sure which one or their rate.
Btw, thanks for your advice too Luci, I missed your post earlier. I'll be comparing carefully before deciding
just lost another post!!!! Shirely - Tesco do have a pre paid Euro card!

I posted the same time as Luci earlier but her post showed
glynis- you posted at 7.55 pm - Luci posted at 7.57pm - It makes a difference!

It may have made a difference! because when I saw Luci's post mine was on preview and so I read Luci's first before checking my own!
I'm not sure if posting at the exact second alters things but you've mentioned this happened also in another thread so it's unusual that you would post at exactly the same time as someone else twice I would have thought. It's never happened to me - yet
