The Square

The square is where you think it is, although I think only from Cafe Benidorm down to Calle Gerona is actually the square. The "top road" in a club context is the N332a road that heads out towards Albir, where there are some bigger nightclubs KM Ku etc. More the teenage foam and pills type stuff than the ones in town

Hi there, I am going to Benidorm on may 11-25. I have been looking on trip advisor on the forums..... There are MANY posts regarding the square. People have been having some pretty awful experiences. Lots of fighting and drunks lying in the streets. I am from a big city myself and I am not bothered by people being loud and having a good time, but since I am going to be in a place I have never been with my little sister, Im feeling a little nervous. Is it really that bad? Thank you

The Square is a very small part of Benidrom. My advice would be if are really worried there will be trouble don't go there as there are loads of other places to go in Benidorm.

I have to say having been to Benidorm 11 times and to the Square on numerous occasions you do see the odd bit of trouble but nothing to worry about and they do have security on the clubs and the Police usually arrive quickly when there is trouble outside.

Its normally over the weeked when you seem to get a lot more people in the Square and that would be the time I would avoid it. I have had many a good night dancing till 6 in the morning in Cafe benidorm without any trouble at all.

You'll be fine.

Like the poster above has said you will get general idiots who can't take the beer and isolated incidents will take place but having just returned from Beni for my 20th time I can honestly say that I have never seen anything major occurring. There are plenty of places to drink in and have a good time without even going near the square. The time of the year that you are going isn't really peak so it will not really be that crowded anyway, a friend of mine has worked in Beni for 11 years and most of the trouble occurs in July and August. Just keep your wits about like you would anywhere else in the world and you will be fine.

We were on the Square in August, but in the early evening, and didn't see any problems. I think it is more likely to happen in the early hours of the morning. My 21 year old God-daughter spent all her time in the Square until 6 or 7am also in August and didn't report any problems either.

As has been said, it is a tiny part of Benidorm and easily avoided. However I would take sensible precautions and only take out the money you need for the night and no bank or credit cards.

Whats it like in winter time ?

It was fine when we were staying at the Orange between Xmas and New Year, really quiet. We only heard the odd noise from Cafe Benidorm early in the morning a couple of times, but nothing major.

No way I'd venture there in the summer let alone stay there.

the square is actually a street called av de mallorca witch is just of calle gerona and its the place were most of the younger (and not so younger) go after midnight some do go before. its were you will find places sutch as lennon,s,bahamas, sinatras, champions, zodiac, and the one i like the best cafe benidorm witch is open until 7.00am some people love the square some dont its not realy a place for family,s it gets very hectic at the weekend with groups ie stags&hens but in all the time i have been there i have never seen any hassle and i go every year with the mates again when i am in benidorm with the family i never go near the place lol
hope that has helped cheers from the fatboy

The 'square' is brilliant, young and old, every bar offers something a bit different depending on the time of night to be honest, champions for instance has karaoke on earlier in the evening and attracts a mix of families, couples and groups of lads, and then later on the doors close and it beomes more of a nightclub/party,same with Cafe Benidorm,i've sat in there at 9pm with the lads and been civilized, spoken to families etc but come back at 1-2am and it's a different story altogether.
Linekers, sinatras and a few others are on the next block up,the road that crosses between this block and the 'square' also has loads of bars,as does the road that crosses the bottom end of the square by chaplins, along these roads you'll find places like the red dog, scruffy murphy's and a load of others,or in the street paralell to the square there's the loch ness bar and loads of other, this part of benidorm is almost 24/7 and like i say it changes atmosphere and crowd with the clock, there's other good bars along the adjecent blocks leading out towards the rincon area and you'll find bars like the plaza or the wheeltappers which have shows and stand ups etc on all evening, and also all the way to the beachfront, where you'll find even more bars and also the 'del playa' versions of KM,Ku and pascha clubs, these are the smaller versions of the big clubs out on the top road, they're owned by the same people as the main clubs but are cheaper to get into and are more for the drinkers that like clubbing rather than the out and out pill-taking ibiza types.
Fot that you're better off going up to the top road to Ku,KM,penelopes, space, pacha etc, these clubs emulate their namesakes in the balearics and have top house DJ's playing in peak season, and a lot of lesser known spanish DJ's,all attract thousands of people in the middle of summer, you can get tickets and vouchers from their PR's in town and there's posters up all over benidorm advertising the next upcoming event.

I actually want to go to benidorm now,it's been a few years, what a place!

samba you wont find linikers in benidorm now it was knocked in to 1 and is now all lennons sinatras is above cafe b across the road and on that road you will find the red dog road at the bottom of the square were bahamas is and chaplins is calle gerona were most of the show bars are like rocky,s western salloon ,panchos, broadway, zodiac, the rock star, thick as theives, and loads more

Wheeltappers long gone too i'm afraid!

I much prefer the Cabaret Bars along and just off Calle Gerona to anything on the square. Also the Cabaret Bars up near the Levante Club/Melia/Flamingo Oasis Hotels are great too, with some really good acts on, and cheaper on drinks than those in the main levante areas.

Unfortunately were in our late forties with a 12 year old and travelling first week in November 10, and staying at the Marina. Were just looking for a fun lively bar with entertainment. Some were we do not have to walk too far, and then be tucked up in bed for 1am before the young ones start to party all night. :rofl

Colin...Most of the Cabaret Bars along & just off Calle Gerona will fit the bill for you, none of them are much more than a few minutes walk from where you are, and some really good acts on! Tell me what you like & i'll try & point you in the right direction!

Comedy with some music. Wife particularly likes the Drag Comedians. Maybe im missing something. mmm. But the drags like me because im short fat and baldy. Drags just love to take the pi-- out of me.. :]]
But live acts with comedy suits us as long as my 12 year old daughter is allowed in.

Thanks Taggy

your daughter will be allowed in all the cabaret bars , but most of the comeidians are very blue , certainly not suitable for a 12 year old , most of the other acts are tributes

Well there is Rose Peters who is a Drag/Comedy Act who is often the first act on at The Zodiac and also does Tommys Bar i think! For a mixed bag of Music/Comedy in one venue you could do worst than The Town. They have a great singer on first called Neil Ross, (the best in Beni IMO),Then a good comedian called Rikki Stevens, followed by Dave Keegan a really good Elvis Impersonator. After thats theres a Soul Tribute followed by a Pink Tribute!
Cheroot combines Music & Comedy and i think at the moment he's on some nights at The Tower Lounge and The Tavern.
Theres a Black Eyed Peas, & a Lady Gaga Tribute on at Valentines some nights, Lady Gaga also does UK Bar. The White Horse is quite a nice little Cabaret Bar with a good atmosphere, and Benidorms top female duo DebnHer are there a couple of times a week...i'd urge anyone to see them (they are superb & funny too), they also do The Tower Lounger twice a week, as well as The Tropical, Sinatras, Morgans Tavern & Buddies.
Theres a great Queen Musical Tribute act called One Vision they appear a few nights a week at Morgans Tavern & also at UK Bar under the Presidente Hotel! Sister Act is another popular Tribute at Morgans & UK Bar!
There are also Girls Aloud tribute, at Rockerfellas, Boyzone at Stardust, Rachels, & Westlife at Broadway which your daughter might like.
Most of the comedians do swear quite a bit in their act, and tell a few near the knuckle jokes, i dont think they are all really "blue" and a lot do take their kids in, but they arn't really suited to an audience with children in it, but you can always pop in and see, and you can come out if not to your liking! A lot of Kids see Rikki Stevens, so although he does use the odd swear word, i'd consider him suitable, i've sat through his act several times, and cant see anyone being offended!

Thanks Taggy,
Were not stuffy parents and we bring our child up NOT WEARING BLINKERS. So she is pretty street wise so as long as its not too blue were up for a bit of a laugh. So Ive listed your suggestions and we will take a look round them every night while were there.
Cheers mate :cheers
