hi sun

thanks very much for the advice!
we've been very lucky for the last 10 years to holiday every year sometimes twice a year! and for some reason most people end up trusting their fellow holiday makers that they have only known for a few days or so!
lots of people who use HT are new to holidaying abroad and I'm sure your advice and tips will help them!

its just a matter of being sensible and I'm sure with a mixture of the sun and booze people tend to relax maybe a little too much !!!!

Some great advice there Sun. I think the most important thing people can do is not to drop their guard when on holidays. Show the same degree of caution you would when you are at home.

Young girls will walk through areas after a few drinks that they wouldnt dream of doing at home.

Remember mean and nasty people also take a break and go on holiday.

Thanks so much for your input Sun

Of course we dont want to be worrying all the time, but forewarned is forearmed as they say, and just knowing about these things means we can have a safer holiday!

Last year my daughters boyfriend got 100 Euros stolen when a "gypsy" lady offered him a rose.....................I would have known it was a scam but he was only 18 and just wasnt aware of it.

I put it in the Enquiries Hints and Tips section, and loads of others put on things that had happened to them.

Thanks again :D

What gets me is these gypsies with the flowers are everywhere!
Is it wrong of me to guess that they are all theives? And if they are theives and it's obviously a well know scam abroard then why are the authorities not doing anything about them! You see them walking up and down the prom all day with the lucky heather in their hands!

Chivas I dont know if they are all thieves, Im sure there are some genuine people who sell flowers around the restaurants and clubs at night.

This was in Can Pastilla and the police told us that they worked for organised gangs, who also do the "Find the lady" trick....they have stooges set up to pose as tourists and then other people join in................I think you just have to think.................you dont get something for nothing so dont ever join in! These people had look outs all along the beach watching for policecars and signalled to each other, then the guy would pack up his stuff and make a run for it!!!

Fifteen minutes later they were back again!

Last time we were on holiday, my 3 year old took his new trainers off (bought on the way to the airport) at our table in the hotel bar whilst the evening entertainment was on. We put them on the shelf under the table and he was quite happily playing with another little boy about the same age. When we went to leave to put him to bed, his trainers were gone. We asked the bar staff and at reception, but didn't get anywhere. It was the only pair of trainers he had with him and cost about £30. We can only assume they were taken when we went to the bar.

The next day, the family of the little boy who my son had been playing with, were waiting for the bus to take them home, when I noticed that the little boy was wearing my son's trainers. I went to find a rep to report this as I had filled in a form the previous night, but by the time we got the paperwork etc the bus had gone, along with my son's trainers.

I never thought that people could be so hard, as to steal a 3 year olds pair of trainers and then blatently wear them the day after. They obviously thought as they were going home, that they wouldn't be seen.

 Sazmo the actions of some people just begs belief. I was speaking to a lady at the hotel I stayed in last year and she'd had her digital camera taken from the table and another lady had her jacket taken, it's a sad fact but you do need to keep your guard about you at all times as said before :?

I will be ensuring when we go this year that everything is kept in view of us and that nothing will be left unattended. Hopefully nothing will go missing then.

If I go out with a handbag, I always put one of the chair legs through the strap so it can't get swiped and I always make sure it's done up. It's amazing the amount of people you see with their bags open and their purse sitting right on the top.

Bet luck this year Sarah :D

Sazmo - that's dreadful!

It never ceases to amaze me how low some people stoop.

I can remember reading a thread about scum taking buggies off the carousel that weren't theirs and leaving their manky filthy buggies behind still going round the carousel and walking out of the airport laughing about it!
