I have to confess that im not a big poster on this forum nor am i on here that much to read the posts, however, i think, while a lot of the posts pertain to "whats the best restaurant" or " where can i buy cheap ciggies from" there doesnt seem to be too much information about the things that could turn your ideal Holiday into a disaster.
So to that end, as somebody who is living and working here, here are my "Things you really ought to know"
1) DO NOT leave your drink unattended at anytime in a Nightclub etc, it could get spiked!!!!!!
2) DO NOT leave valubles unattended in said clubs, pubs etc, you wouldnt do it back home so dont do it here, we have thieves too......
3) Bag snatching does happen in the resorts so avoid a clutch bag and wear one with a strap that fits diagonally over you. Bag snatchers like easy targets.
4) ALWAYS rent a safety deposit box. I cannot possibly know all who are resident at my Hotel,it is very easy for a theif to waltz in and do a " quick snatch" out of a room, door open, temporarily unguarded.
5)If i had a euro for every "lost" mobile phone at our Hotel id be able to retire!! Some reports will be an insurance fiddle me thinks but some are genuinely stolen. The person you sit near in the Dining room, around the Pool etc could have funded his Holiday through crime, couldnt he? Thieves go on their Hols too!!!!
5)ALWAYS have a word with reception regarding excursions/car hire. 9 times out of 10 we can offer the same services as the tour operator, cheaper!!!! The tour operators are not best pleased about this, however, you can save yourself plenty of euros....................
All the above i have had personal experience of. Its also true to say that the above can apply to any resort anywhere in the world. Some travellers really do leave their brains back at home!! Be sensible and you wont suffer what many people do every year.
thanks very much for the advice!
we've been very lucky for the last 10 years to holiday every year sometimes twice a year! and for some reason most people end up trusting their fellow holiday makers that they have only known for a few days or so!
lots of people who use HT are new to holidaying abroad and I'm sure your advice and tips will help them!
its just a matter of being sensible and I'm sure with a mixture of the sun and booze people tend to relax maybe a little too much !!!!

Some very good advice there Sun.
We once had my purse stolen by an english couple we'd been sat next to on an excurison. We realised when getting off the boat and they just ran off....it was awful really we being talking to them loads etc
Young girls will walk through areas after a few drinks that they wouldnt dream of doing at home.
Remember mean and nasty people also take a break and go on holiday.
Of course we dont want to be worrying all the time, but forewarned is forearmed as they say, and just knowing about these things means we can have a safer holiday!
Last year my daughters boyfriend got 100 Euros stolen when a "gypsy" lady offered him a rose.....................I would have known it was a scam but he was only 18 and just wasnt aware of it.
I put it in the Enquiries Hints and Tips section, and loads of others put on things that had happened to them.
Thanks again
Is it wrong of me to guess that they are all theives? And if they are theives and it's obviously a well know scam abroard then why are the authorities not doing anything about them! You see them walking up and down the prom all day with the lucky heather in their hands!
This was in Can Pastilla and the police told us that they worked for organised gangs, who also do the "Find the lady" trick....they have stooges set up to pose as tourists and then other people join in................I think you just have to think.................you dont get something for nothing so dont ever join in! These people had look outs all along the beach watching for policecars and signalled to each other, then the guy would pack up his stuff and make a run for it!!!
Fifteen minutes later they were back again!
Why is the word 's c a m' replaced by ????
Hi Chivas, c o n and s c a m are replaced by ???? because of libel reasons
lol
The next day, the family of the little boy who my son had been playing with, were waiting for the bus to take them home, when I noticed that the little boy was wearing my son's trainers. I went to find a rep to report this as I had filled in a form the previous night, but by the time we got the paperwork etc the bus had gone, along with my son's trainers.
I never thought that people could be so hard, as to steal a 3 year olds pair of trainers and then blatently wear them the day after. They obviously thought as they were going home, that they wouldn't be seen.
Sarah
Sazmo the actions of some people just begs belief. I was speaking to a lady at the hotel I stayed in last year and she'd had her digital camera taken from the table and another lady had her jacket taken, it's a sad fact but you do need to keep your guard about you at all times as said before
I will be ensuring when we go this year that everything is kept in view of us and that nothing will be left unattended. Hopefully nothing will go missing then.
If I go out with a handbag, I always put one of the chair legs through the strap so it can't get swiped and I always make sure it's done up. It's amazing the amount of people you see with their bags open and their purse sitting right on the top.
Thanks Shell
Sorry that was supposed to say better luck Sarah Thanks I'm off to Puerto Pollensa in August for a week.
It never ceases to amaze me how low some people stoop.
I can remember reading a thread about scum taking buggies off the carousel that weren't theirs and leaving their manky filthy buggies behind still going round the carousel and walking out of the airport laughing about it!
