It's going to be a surprise for the missus
Looking for direct flights to Vegas. Last time we went we stayed at the Stratosphere hotel as part of a holiday package with Virgin Holidays. Ideally would like something more upmarket.
I have read the many topics here on getting deals but I am struggling to find good prices for the flights. I believe that only Virgin Atlantic flies direct to Las Vegas? Does anybody know any other airlines that fly direct.
As to the hotel. We (well me for the moment) are looking for 7 nights.
Total budget for each of us in the region of £600 (eg £1200 in total).
Is this doable? And if so, what hotels and airlines would you suggest.
Mark
As for hotels, you will see from the other thread that there are a few of us looking for September hotels just now. There's a $32 rate on Hotwire for my dates 11-17th includes 2 weekend nights and it looks like the Stratosphere. There's also a $69 rate for Luxor or Monte Carlo. And $49 for Desert Rose (tempting...). I still think there's more good deals on their way.
Have you tried Expedia to see if there's any one-stop flights for your trip? I find you can get a good deal with Expedia if you do flight + hotel for a few of your nights (maybe the weekend) then look for a hotel for the other nights at a good rate. You also get 3.5% quidco for booking flight+hotel which is good.
As for Hotels, depends on your age and what you want from the hotel. Younger hotels are TI, Planet Hollywood. If you want something classier there's some $129 deals for Venetian, and there's also Wynn on hotwire for $139 for 11-17th that I've been looking up. There's also Trump for $119. Signature at MGM for $119 too. MGM will be highly recommended on this forum, there's a few of us who have stayed there the last few years and like it (I was previously a North Strip fan, but I'm now a fan of south strip too!).
Virgin are the only direct flight from London. The only other direct flight is Thomas Cook on a Wednesday from Manchester, but they only have a 15kg baggage allowance.
I was staying at Paris for $60 which is a very nice hotel in a great locations. There are offers knocking about for the MGM at $49. Remember Friday and Saturday are typically double.
I think you will struggle to do it hotel and air fare for £600, but it is possible.
Check http://www.smartervegas.com for offers on hotels and also http://www.travelzoo.com , the US site not the UK one.
Sort out your flight and worry about the hotel later as hotel deals start to come out 2-3 months ahead.

You may be in luck, there are some great flight deals around right now, although not direct. I've flown indirect and to be honest, if you get a 2hr turnaround time it's not an issue. http://www.netflights.com currently have flights with United in September for £299.....yup, just £299, that's the cheapest flights I've seen in years to Vegas! I didn't look at the times but they are there and there are other flights for around the £330 mark too. If you booked those flights for £300, that would leave you £600 in total for the weeks accomodation, which would get you into almost all the strip hotels apart from Wynn, Bellagio, Palazzo, Venetian and Caesers Palace. You could probably do a deal to stay at the Signature for that. Lots of possibilities if you get in fairly quick on those flights.
Cheers,
TC

Good price Mark, but you should be able to do far, far better than the Sahara for not much more. Keep pricing packages, but also check current offers on hotels and flights.
Expedia:-
Bellagio £663 per person
Planet Hollywood £609
MGM £586
Paris £578
Sahara £420
Signature £632
Maybe not the best flights...Northwest going, KLM coming back. Not bad times actually..
London (LHR) to Las Vegas (LAS) Depart:26/09/09 14:25 - 22:35 Northwest Northwest
Las Vegas (LAS) to London (LHR) Return:03/10/09 11:55 - 12:15 (+1 day) KLM KLM
The Signature's a lovely property, but non-smoking so may be an issue although there are smoking areas outside. It is a bit of a hike to the strip though. I had read all the comments. Some said it was a hike, some said it was only 5-10 mins. I timed it. It was 15 mins to PH and the same to MGM then another 10 mins from the back of MGM to the front. It did get tiresome after a while.

I don't think there is any doubt you would be able to fit in two adults for under £1200. I did that in 07, and that was staying in a Celebrity Spa Suite at the MGM.
Keep us updated with your plans
How's the search going? you booked anything yet?
Still some decent deals out there -
KLM flights + Monte Carlo £504
KLM flights + Luxor - £535
KLM flights + Sahara - £429
KLM flights + Excalibur - £475
KLM flights + Stratosphere - £419
flights with United or US Airways are only £13 more.
Cheers,
TC
Haven't booked as yet. Will wait until we get back from our holiday to Aruba and will look what is on offer then and make a decision from there.
