hi, my df has told me last night that he might take me away for a few days for my birthday (ill be 23) yippie! me birthday is on new years day, he says we can go for 3-4 days never been on this short time before but we are saving to buy a house so were just looking for a short break really for my birthday!
so i quite fancy egypt sharm, non of us have ever been before we normally go places like the greek islands, last new year we went to tenerife for 1 week. i thought egypt sounded a little more far out and more exotic without having to go too far if you know what i mean! and i would like the chance to experience somewhere abit further afield before we do move into our new home next year. also i qualify from my uni course in 3 weeks although its official on jan 3rd so it will be a tripple celebration! (new year, birthday and passing my course!)
so i guess what i would like to know is what is egypt like at new year, is it warm i have read some post which seem to indicate it is warm and warm enough to swim. i have noticed that some hotels have heated pools in winter although it is to the managers descretion, does anyone know are they more likley to be heated or not if it says this?
is sharm the main place to be or are there other good places too? is egypt classed as a long haul destination and do you think it is worth going for 3 nights-4 days? i think it would be nice to go out on the 30th and come back on the 2nd that way we will have new years eve plus the day before, my birthday and the day after or half of it before we have to come home anyway.
i have noticed that it is very expensive at this time, we would be willing to wait and get a late deal, something we have never done before but weve only just decided we might go anyway. does anyone know if the prices are likley to come down closer to the time?
sorry for all the question! any help/advice is greatly appriciated thanks hope someone can help!
I have just left on the 1st December, and the weather was very warm nice temps in the day averaging 86F, but the nights were cooler, long trousers and sweaters on occasions, around the 17c mark. You can eat out in the open very pleasant. I didnt notice the temps getting cooler in the day, but suggest it will be around 70s in the new year. Yes you can still swim in the sea, the pools will be heated, although when we went everyone was down the beach.
