Hi,
I booked a holiday from Manchester - Varadero for July 2010 with the premium upgrade on the flight about a month ago, I rang TC to book and when I asked could I prebook my seats the sales person added on "your seat your choice" to my booking at a cost of £20pp. She told me I could log onto the TC website and choose my seats 7 days before departure. A few weeks after booking I was on the Trip Advisor forums and saw that several people on long haul flights had already booked their seats for next summer, and had only paid £12pp. Obviously I was a bit worried that we would be left with seat across an isle/in different rows so decided to ring TC customer service to check it out, I spoke to 3 different women who all said that there was no way any other people could have paid only £12 to choose their seats, at some points they were actually quite rude and siad I obviously was getting confused with things. They even told me different times to book the seats, ranging from a week to 90 days before departure. I then rang TC Airlines directly, when she brought my booking up on screen she said I'd been sold the wrong thing and I should get the £20pp refunded and then ring back, pay £12pp and choose my seats, which I did and now have my seats booked.
I've sent an email to TC via the online system now as the customer service hepline were totally useless, even when I had spoken to the Airline they still said I wouldn't get my seats for £12. I'm just a bit worried they're doing this to other people who don't check travel forums etc. so don't know they're being overcharged, and then they'll have paid over the odds to possibly not even sit together.
If anyone else has experienced this I'd be interested to hear what TC had to say to you.
Thanks!
I only found this out after trying to book 'your seat your choice' online this year, after booking it last year and only paying £6 per seat each way, (as premium passengers get free 'sitting together')
The online system wanted to charge £64 :yikes, so I phoned them and explained what was happening and they did promise to look into it.
That hasn't happened, as someone had posted on the TC thread and had paid over the odds. They did get a refund.
I think that TC are now so big, the right hand doesn't know what the left one is doing!!!

P.S. you can book 'your seat, your choice' as soon as you have a booking reference number.
My booking's with Direct holidays Denny so are you saying I should be able to choose my seats now.

As Denny says "you can book 'your seat, your choice' as soon as you have a booking reference number."
Neighbours of mine have booked their seats and they dont go on their holiday until next June.

Our holiday Manchester to Veradero Cuba departing 28 May 2010
Please can someone advise me. I have booked Your Seat Your Choice through Direct Holidays (they are owned by TC) and I have been on the Thomas Cook airlines site and quite a few of the seats are already booked when I tried reserve the seats I was going to be charged again. I called Direct Holidays to see what YCYS involves but the adviser said that if I wanted to pre book my seats without YSYC then the charges would be much she also said that YSYC would enable me to check in online but from what I have read Manchester International does not have that facility
Has anyone else had trouble using this extra
Sue
Just for the return flight though for peace of mind.
On the website it comes up as £13 per person per seat. This seems pretty steep to me.
I think loads of people have had bother with the your seat your choice extra, I've been told that many things about it that it gets a bit confusing, but from what I can gather it only allows you to select your own seat 7days before departure, you have to pay a bit extra again to pick the seats further in advance. If you're in premium though you shouldn't have to pay the £20 YSYC fee, only the extra amount to book in advance, which is £6 each way. I had to ring the airline directly to do this as the website wouldn't register that I was in premium therefore all the premium cabin was blocked out on the seat selector part.
Hope you get sorted!
Steph
yes we have had the same problem as you, we am flying from manchester to holguin and in our flight tickets it says book your seats for £12 return and is avaliable on your flight. we went through the booking process and it came up as £64 return each!! we rang the customer service department and they said that it starts at £12 and then just hung up on us. so we contacted thomas cook directly and they said it was not their department and they would transer our call, we told them that we had already rang them and they told us that there was nothing they could do. we still do not have seats!!!
I hope I can clear up the confusion for everybody who are having problems. You can selectk YSYC from £6pp per flight from 7 days before departure. However if you want to purchase before then, you can do so from 14 weeks of your departure date but it will cost you another £7 pp per flight. I have done this so the total for my booking YSYC for hubby and I came to £52. Note the price starts from £6 pp per flight, depending on the seat you pick. Certain seats e.g. extra legroom are more. If you select your seats on the website, you can see exactly how much they want for each seat. I hope this will help clear the confusion.
I've just logged in to check and can anyone confirm what the seats shaded in blue mean . Are they the ones already booked ??? .It's only telling me White for available and red for exit seats . If that's the case I'm little worried now as half the plan has already turned blue .
I didnt and we booked last August. So then a couple of weeks ago, decided to pre book etc, so booked our seats cost £13 each, one way, so assume £6 was the your seat option and the difference was the extra cost for picking the seats earlier than the 7 days before your flight option which I assume is free.
I've never ever pre booked seats before so will see if its worth it. We're going to Turkey
the problem seems to be double charging which should be sorted out and is quite poor considering how big an operator they are.

Two Months ago we are booked for Holguin, mid November in premium cabin and paid ‘Your Seat Your Choice' and after reading conflicting reports regarding booking seats we decided to try Thomas Cook Airlines. This morning I waited 5 minutes and was answered by Ian, who could not have been more helpful, he booked our preferred seats (A&B) for both ways at no extra cost and this 140 days prior to travel; we also received email confirmation within 10 minutes. One cant ask more that that!, excellent service and thanks to all for the lead.

We prebooked our seats to Menorca and return for the 5th June. fine going out, got to the airport for the return flight and were given different seats and not together. On contacting the supervisor we were informed they had been given to someone else and more or less told 'tuff nothing they could do, sort it out when you get home'. We weren't the only ones either. I applied for a refund as soon as we got home, two weeks later, not a word. No apology and no refund. Paid £12 each both ways.
Seeing as TCX are doing away with premium long haul seating from Summer 2011, I guess YSYC and how much it should cost will be one less problem for them to sort out!
Reasons
Thomsons have or will be using the new Dreamliner aircraft with a premium section in it
Monarch are keeping theirs-
so thomas Cook will lose business if they do get rid of - and i cant see that happening especially as T?c have a specialised longhaul megga £££ department
however i have read that premium seats will be on longhaul only and not on any aircraft under 6 hours duration
Thomsons have or will be using the new Dreamliner aircraft with a premium section in it
Actually if APD isnt reformed Thomson have said openly in the press they will not have Premium, its the way forward if APD doesnt change for the better.
Tasape, if you check a Thomas Cook brochure for Summer 2011 onwards, there is no mention at all in the brochure of any premium sections, even for long haul. There is no premium price supplement shown in the flights section, just for the winter 2010/11 flights. I have checked with my local Thomas Cook shop and they have confirmed that they will not be offering premium seats after April 2011, apparently they are becoming difficult to sell because of the cost imposed on them for the ADT.
As previously stated i work for the said company and there is no premium cabin next year, and if APD isnt changed thomson will do the same
Going to DR Thompsons are charging £50 return just for the privilage of sitting together, premier seats advertised as £119 each but they want to charge £239, just for a bit more leg room and a couple of drinks its a rip off.
