When you booked the room surely they knew the ages of your children? Why take the booking if the room (at the time) wasn't suitable? When you received your confirmation invoice and the news that you could no longer have that room, you should have been offered a full refund if they accepted the booking and then discovered they had made a mistake.

first choice did this to me, we booked a 2 bed roomed apartment for 4 adults and 2 kids, we found out (not from FC) that the 2 bed rooms now only slept 5. they have moved us to 2 one bed apartments (which is much better as we are going with my mum and dad) free of charge.

i would definitely complain and see where it gets you.

good luck.

hi glynis, they did not admit to making a mistake and said we could choose another holiday, we had only paid £100 deposit but we would have to pay the rest of the deposit which is around £500 if we cancelled altogether. we are going away with friends so we had no choice but to book 2 rooms but they did take some paper work from me and destroyed it, they didn`t know i have phtocopied it so i have everything here with me. when i tried for one of these bigger rooms it was gonna cost an extra £800 which we said no way but did not know if we had any rights or not, by the time i was told i should try to go further with this there was no rooms available!!!!! i am not a one for complaining much but i don`t think we should be paying nearly 3 grand to stay in 2 seperate rooms in tunisia............
what to do???????

Are you saying that your original invoice quoted a family room, which would accommodate you all ?

It looks like the mistake was made by allowing a 13yr old to be counted as a child (normally classed as an adult at 12) apart from some hotels where there are exceptions. Sounds very much like user error to me.

However, the booking systems are very complex and sometimes they will let you allocate children to a room even when their age dictates they cannot be accomodated.

It would interesting to know what your original paperwork says. If it clearly gives your childrens ages and says a family room - they need to pay for their mistake. If so, try giving Ros Fernihough, Solicitor a call on 01922 621114 for free impartial advice.

my confirmation has our ages at the time of booking and the family5 room dated 5 oct, i then got a letter dated 16 oct to say the family5 room consists of 1 double bed and 3 child beds for children under 12, next one is 16 oct to say they are sorry we had to cancel, but thomson now do a family room which takes 4 adults and so many kids, which we have 3 adults and 1 child price way because my oldest son s 13

You need to ring Ros Fernihough and ask her advise. Sounds very much like Thomson dropped a boo boo!

Maybe the key here is that the paper work included ages at the time of booking. Would your son have been 12 then ?

"Maybe the key here is that the paper work included ages at the time of booking."

I think this hits the nail on the head. Unless a date of birth was asked for it seems obvious to me that the ages given for the children would be their ages when they were going on holiday and how anyone could think otherwise amazes me. :?

on my original invoice our ages are what we were at the time of booking, my oldest son is down as 12 but i was still charged 3 adult prices and 1 child. if he was still gonna be 12 we would have been charged child price for him os so you would think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i did fone ros for advice and was told if thomson wanted to charge me extra for the room we would have to pay and then fight when we get back but who`s to say we would get the money back after we have paid. i will never book in advance again and won`t be going anywhere near thomson. i was told to go back to the shop where we booked but don`t think that`s a good idea as they have already tried to destroy evidence of their mistake before so i don`t trust any of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK I take your point that Thomson made a cock up but I'm still intrigued as to way you gave your son's age at the time of the booking rather than his age at the time of departure which was surely more relevent to the Terms and Conditions. It appears holiday companies are not the only ones trying to pull a fast one.

we did tell her our sons age for this year because we wanted a price as we knew he would be charged adult price for him. she also took our dob for the insurance which she cocked up because when we got confirmation the insurance was more expensive and when i foned them i was told i had to have different insurance for tunisia, so she changed it without informing me. i have done nothing wrong and now i have to spend a fortnight in seperate rooms from either my hubby or my kids

can anyone tell me why when you have three kids, one being 13 next year they see fit to put you in 2 x apartments?

Weve been looking for next year and all the prices coming back are :omg.

I couldn't and wouldn't expect my kids to sleep in their own room away from us... and then they have the cheek to charge for a room suppliment for under occupancy?!!

I think when you book any holiday you get so excited and don't always read the 'what your really paying for'. This happend to us this year... when we got home and checked our invoice again.... :omg

mind you... a fortnight with kevin and perry is what i will be faced with next year so I suppose two rooms looks good... :rofl

i have only got 2 kids, but they are 11 and 13 year old boys and the oldest one likes to "explore" shall we say so i don`t fancy them havin a seperate room to us, will just have to wait till we get there and see if we can do some furniture swapping (was gonna say bed swapping but it doesn`t sound right)lol

May I suggest that perhaps in future you do a diy holiday. That way you can book an apartment/villa with the required number of bedrooms you require. No under occupancy supplements either.

Hi

Are you telling me no company has a 2 bedroom apt? That's 2 in each bedroom and 1 sleeping on the sofa bed.

There damn quick to charge under occupancy for 2 peeps in a 1 bedroom apt so it's the norm to house 5 in a 2 bedroom apt. Did you ask them for a 2 bedroom apt?
