When we were on the Spirit there were two washing machines and two dryers and I think it was £2 for each of them, or it could have been £2 for the washer and the dryer was free? It was a while ago so I can't remember. You could buy detergent from the shop or the Purser's Desk or you could always take your own.
also....
i've recently read on thenet that the spirit is undergoing a 6 month refit from october/november 2007 - does anyone if there's any truth in this?
Don't know if that's true, but it's possible you wouldn't see any difference after a refit as most of it tends to be technical.
Am booking a cruise in April 2008 can anyone tell me the benefits of booking cabin say in deck 3 to say deck two.
As there is a difference in the price I would like to know the benefits and advantages.
Thank
TC
From our experience the lower decks (which are the cheapest )are the noisiest in terms of behaviour of some kids and some passengers. We found more kids running up and down and more late night disregard for other passengers on these decks, hence we try to choose 3 upwards. Perhaps we were unlucky with our cabin allocation.
Hi. Sorry if this has been covered already but me an my wife are going on the Jewls of the med cruise on the Spirit in August and I was wondering if someone who had been on the ship recently could let us know what people where to dinner in the main resteraunt. I was planning on taking jeans and shirts. Is this acceptable. I understand some people but not all dress up for the gala evening.
The food on board was lovely by the way.
I read somewhere that the Spirit was having a re-fit over the winter 2007 period and wondered if anyone knew whether this had happened or not?
please help.
what would be recommended and how do i go about booking.
also an idea of charges would be greatful too.
thanks for any help in anticipation and advance.

I have merged your post with an existing topic on the Thomson Spirit.
We went on our first cruise with Thomson's on the Topaz for my major birthday. Unknown to me, hubby had arranged for flowers to be in the cabin when we arrived. I think he arranged it with Thomson's via the travel agent before we left. I got a massive arrangement of flowers and he said it was the best £25 he's ever spent. That was 8 years ago.
However there was someone on the same cruise that had booked a celebration party and she complained to anyone who would listen that the champagne wasn't proper champagne, but cheaper sparkling wine and that it was a rip off.
If you have booked with a travel agent then I would try them first. Otheriwise call Thomson's and ask what your options are.

does anyone know whether you can hire a tux or suit on board the spirit?
Cannot imagine so, there would only be a tiny minority, if any, who would dress in that way even on Captain's night. Smart casual is the preferred dress code.
On the Celebration (sister ship to the Spirit) recently, a large number of men wore Tuxedo's on formal night. My husband felt decidedly underdressed in his shirt and tie!
Cannot speak for the Celebration, which I have not been on, but only the Spirit although that was back in 2005!!
Just asked hubby his opinion on this hot topic! I thought about 50% went for dj's, hubby thinks possibly more. We were on 2 years ago - and can't wait for our next cruise this summer.
Hello everyone, we are going on our first cruise in July on the Thompson Spirit, and my other half enjoys a little flutter in the casino. What games do they play? Are you able to use cash in the casino or do you have to use a credit/debit card to play?

Just got back from the "Ancient Voyage" cruise on the Spirit and I tend to agree that not many men wore Tuxedo's. Most just wore trousers, shirt and a tie, some not even a jacket.
I really wouldn't worry about having to dress up too much. It'll be so hot on board anyway that even putting a tie on will be a pain
We cruised on the Celebration last year and I did enquire if it was possible to hire a tux (didn't really want to have to lug one around as hand luggage travelling out) but it was a definite no. You could buy one from the shop onboard the Celebration but I wont even go into how much they cost!!! I expect the same applies to the Spirit.
Have a great time

Any information would be gratefully appreciated.
The casino is great (we're just back from another visit on the Spirit) they have a roulette table and 3 tables that play poker and blackjack. Although there are only the four tables they rarely get too busy to play one of them!
Any charges are credited against your onboard account - which is usually taken from a credit card lodged when you board. You can also lodge cash if you don't have or don't want to use a credit card. You can also use cash on the cable if desired.
It's a fantastic ship - you will not be disappointed.
Just back from another trip on the Spirit - with regards to smoking, you cannot smoke in the Casino or High Spirits any longer. Smoking is now only allowed on open deck!
