Keep checking back - I had the same when booking the San Miguel Beach Hotel for next year with Portland - the price varied from £2100 down to £1900 then back up to £2200 then down to £1680 (which is when I booked it double quick!!)

Apparently prices come down on a Monday and then rise towards a weekend / bank holiday - disgusting isn't it! Keep trying - I hope you get a decent price!!

Thanks....I like your reasoning, I bet they think that more people book hols on a weekend in town or online and therefore push up the prices!

A £1300 increase for the La Cala is disgusting as if it's not difficult enough for people to afford to take families on holiday in Peak Season!

I'll check back Monday.

If you're not going till August, you've got plenty of time to wait for the best price. Often, there are some good prices in January to encourage people to book just after xmas when everyone's feeling a bit down and a bit skint

It seems that the days of the brochure price being an accuratr guide to pricing a holiday are gone.

I have been browsing the thomson brochures and in every price column it says that prices will vary from day to day. This is totally foriegn to me.In the past the price in the brochure was what you paid unless you could get a travel agent to discount a competitors price.

Having said all this its years since I used a high st travel agent and have either used direct tour companies or DIY or used the web to book through an operator.

Whats the point of them printing prices if they are noy even accurate to within a feww hundred pounds?

Try booking flights and accommodation separate, it always works out much cheaper, have been doing it this way for years. Cannot beat it!

Sorry but I cant agree with that.Sometimes it is cheaper but I have looked a DIY to Benalmedena anfd Fuerteventura next year and found tha t Thomson is slighltly cheaper on both hols.I know it's swings and roundabouts but to say you always save a packet is misleading in my opinion.

I do not weant to mislead anyopne, all I was saying is that it has always worked out cheaper for us, Always, but it takes a lot of searching, but has always been worth it for us but it doesnt suit everyone to go DIY
thanks

Well as this is the Ibiza forum, then i guess JJ is right in saying its cheaper to book separately as thats what the OP is complaining about (not benalmadena), I have yet to find a package deal that is cheaper than my last 6 independent trips to ibiza. The costa del sol is always more pricey flight wise but i went at the end of may this year (during school hols), stayed in a half board hotel for six nights for £200 each and that includes flights no tour operator came anywhere near close- You must not be looking hard enough Wayne!

My flights for Ibiza are rarely above £90 and accomodation varies from £100 to £250 per week, my trips are easily half the cost of doing it by DIY and that includes peak periods and daytime flights too.

this year i paid £300 each (for two) including flights for 12 nights in a 3 star half board hotel in the summer hols in august in San Antonio. In early July i paid £125 each including flights for one week in a three star hotel half board in figuretas. If you know where to look, be prepared to book your flights early and do a bit of research your always going to win.

If thats not saving a packet, i dont know what is?

Ive already got my flights booked for next year, middle of august for £50 each and end of June at £45 each both day time flights, just got to choose my accommodation which is ten a penny.

from which airport do you travel from depends on price of flight.which is yours

This is where im not too fussy, the majority of my flights are from Newcastle which is where i live, but i also use Leeds bradford for my early July trip to Ibiza.

To be honest, newcastle tends to be one of the more expensive airports to fly from as its out in the sticks :D

tell me about it.east mids is cost a bomb.mine you i got a one way flight this oct £50.00 and return to donny/sheff for £50.00.if i had gone from east mids it would of been £179.00.then it did not go down till 3 days before i wish to go to £89.00.but i would not of got my hotel.if i had waited.swings and roundabouts

Ibiza,Benalmadena,Fuerteventura where ever, the only point I,m making is that its NOT always cheaper booking a LIKE FOR LIKE holiday DIY especiially in peak season.

Last year I priced the Caribe in Es cana at DIY and booking through a tour operator in August and DIY was dearer.I went to the same place again this year in September and booked DIY as it was cheaper than the tour ops.

Lukey perhaps you could inform us were you get such cheap accomadation from in peak season.

Been on several sites today and hotels in Ibiza that I know well and are 3 star are all coming out about £1200 /1400 for 2 weeks for 2 persons.Add to that flights of about £200+ and taxis your talking about £1600/1700,thats dearer than some brochure prices!!

I agree that it is not always cheaper booking DIY in peak periods. We have for the last three years to the same hotel. The first year we took our two daughters and two of their friends AI and it cost us the same for 6 as it had done booking via Thomsons the previous year for 4 people. However, since then prices have risen and we are probably paying slightly more for the holiday next year by booking it DIY than if we had booked with Thomson. However, the accommodation within the hotel is a higher standard than that booked with Thomson and so we are prepared to pay a little bit extra.

good thing about diy is.

getting a flight the times you wish to go.and on the days you want to go.

thinking out of the box, why restrict yourselves to hotels the package tour operators use? Ibiza has a great choice of country hotels, agroturismos, villas (you can see mine in the private rentals section above) and fantastic private apartments. they give you the freedom of choice, not only of when you travel and for how long, but also you choose exactly who your fellow holidaymakers are.

for example people who rent my villa don't always all fly in from the same airport or even country and sometimes they don't always stay for the same length of time. the great thing is that they have their privacy, they don't have noisy neighbours, they decide when, where and what to eat, they don't have to emerge at dawn to bag a sunbed, and they don't have the pleasure of other people's kids.

and if they want a daily maid service, chef, nanny, or whatever we can arrange it....

A report in yesterday's Diario de Ibiza suggests that 50% of bookings to Ibiza hotels now are made via the Internet.

Yes I noticed that too but they have just lowered the prices back to round about what they were.Hopefully nobody was silly enough to book at those grossly exaggerated prices.
