you can get the train from palma to soler the bus stops right out side the train station and when you arive at soler you catch the tram down to soler port it a great trip on the train old wooden cowboy like train the views are spectacular remember to take the tram and dont decide to walk my hubby thoght we should walk he said it cant be far 1 1/2 hours later we arived at the port got the tram back the trip is well worth it we went on boxing day 4 years ago and it was great

I have driven down the hairpin road to sa colabra several times. we always take people with us who have never been and they always enjoy it . I have noticed there are always loads of coaches going down there and also boats visiting the bay at the bottom. There is a walkway through the rocks next to a restaurant which takes you into the next little bay which has a valley leading to it like a large canyon in america with caves and little pools etc. Its well worth a visit and i always enjoy the ride down there.

thanks pedpolly, that's exactly why I want to go. I've been there before, but my partner and little boy haven't so I'd like to take them.

Although I've driven abroad before I wasn't the most confident, so I'm figuring a 57 hairpin bend road packed with coaches trying to get round isn't the best way to "break me in", I can just see the insurance excess now!

The best way to get to sa Calobra is by boat from the port of Soller, the only bus that goes in that direction leaves Port de Soller at 9.30 each morning bound for Can Picafort via Port Pollensa, there is only one and it is usually packed with walkers who soon get off at the Mirador Ses Barques and Cuber reservoir as well as Lluc monastery. Their are plenty of trips that take in a coach trip train and tram ride or a boat trip all centred on Calobra and the Port de Soller.

keep an eye on the coaches if possible as they all seem to leave at about the same time and form a convoy on the return drive back out.

The guy we took with us last year insisted on driving down there and it was his first time driving abroad ( thats when my hair went ).
Actually he did ok, as long as you take your time there is nothing to worry about, most of the drive both ways is in low gears. If you do go and decide to swim at the bottom check for jellyfish first i got stung a couple of years ago there.Most people who visit Majorca dont venture up into the mountains but it is the most beautiful part of the island.
