We stayed at the rihana in May of this year and visited Luxor. The coach travel to Luxor is in a convoy (about a 100 coaches), reasonable air conditioned coach, one stop on the way for toilets (clean pay a pound eygptian) and takes about five hours. Some good scenery on the way desert to greenery on approaching Luxor. It was long trip but not to bad and Luxor was well worth the visit. Your journey will be the reverse of ours so may be at night, seats did recline and the coach was quite empty. hope this sought of helps. We went with first choice so I guesS other companies may be different but they will not be able to change the time due to having to travel in the convoy.

We have just returned from Egypt and did the Nile Cruise one week and El Gouna the next, with First Choice. After the cruise we were picked up in Luxor at 1.15 p.m and reached El Gouna about 6.30 p.m after dropping people off in Hurghada which wasn't too bad as we had a coach with a toilet. Going back was horrendous. We were picked up at 5 a.m and went straight to the convoy start point in Safaga. I warn you, don't use the toilets there, they were disgusting! We only had a minibus this time and reached the hotel in Luxor where they were giving us lunch at 11.30 a.m. So this took 6 and a half hours. By the time we got home , landing at 9.30 a.m at Gatwick we were exhausted.

In fairness, a lot of places outside of resorts in Egypt and other places can be absolutely awful. I have attempted even in airports to go to the loo, not necessarily Egypt, and havent even been able to 'stand' to go to the toilet and almost needed wellies to enter the toilet!!! THe holes in the floors are the worst.

At Hurghada airport people try to sell you toilet paper before entering, but there are signs on the walls to say to ignore this.
