Yes we take one if required and I also buy the Nescafe Gold Blend in those plastic ready to make cups out of Poundland, no use for you Helen if you don't like the whitener however it gives me my cup of coffee on the balcony when I get up, ahhhhhhhh lovely.
If we eventually get some nice weather here I might buy some & see if I can get used to them then! Just thought - maybe those cappuchino sachets would be good - probably they've got whitener too. I'll give them a go!
If you don't like the whitener have you considered trying Marvel skimmed milk powder. You just add it to cold water, mix well to stop any lumps forming and it can then be added to your tea/coffee as you would normal milk. It isn't snythetic like the whiteners, I have even used it on cereal.
I don't normally use the plastic cups that come with the kettles, drinks seem to taste odd so and I pack a couple of my own mugs but I do use one of the plastic cups for mixing the milk.

A bit off topic here but now that we are talking Marvel instant milk does anybody else like that instant potato stuff, Smash, or is it just me, I love the stuff it's great
Used to love it as a kid - but haven't had it for years. My last recollection of it was of a very powdery taste. mum used to but those dried onions too
helen i am taking the nescafe 3in1 sachets of nescafe with me , i mentioned to hubby about a travel kettle as we do know that the apts dont have one but they are there to hire , i was concerned about where i took the kettle is it hold or hand luggage . Kiltman i use the frozen mash potato these days and prefer it to the powdered mash ............. yeoman was my favourite as a kid always found smash to taste powdery . Helen we have 20kgs plus 5kg hand luggage so very lucky with taking a few bits and bobs to tide us over
I don't like the Marvel made up as they suggest. What we do is put a spoonful in the mug with a little cold water to mix and then add the teabag and hot water. The small Marvel is usually enough for a week, the larger one for 2 weeks and I drink a lot of tea.

The little pots of long life milk are ideal but we usually buy a carton of milk in the resort and put in the fridge.
Some establishments don't allow the use of kettles in their rooms so it is best not to leave them out.
I remember reading that a maid reported to the management that someone had a kettle in their room and they
were given a good telling off!
If you drink coffee it's really easy because you can buy the 3 in 1 sachets as mentioned before or take the little individual long life cream or uht milk portions, they both taste okay in coffee but I don't know about tea,I only like tea from a teapot so it is not an option for me,coffee is my early morning tipple,T.

Better check that my little kettle works

Helent I like the cappuchino, latte and hot chocolate sachets. You don't need to add milk to them!
I'm not sure if they sell Marvel in other countries, it's a different brand in Germany but the same stuff, in the past before finding the powder here I bought Marvel in the UK on one of my regular visits. If you do take some with you a little goes a long way but don't be tempted to put it into hot water as it will go lumpy.
I also enjoy my morning drink on the balcony, I just returned from a week in Portugal where one of the daily pleasures was sitting out in the early morning sunshine with my cup of coffee.

Are there any specifics we should be looking out for. I've noticed a few say 12v-operated off cigarette lighter in car etc. i'm assuming this isn't the type we need for abroad. What voltage do we need or doesn't it matter as long as we have the correct travel adaptor for the particular country? Thanks
my travel kettle is made for 120v to 230v 60/50hz so it's good for anywhere, it's a normal plastic kettle in minature size, you will need an adaptor plug for countries that have two pin sockets. It's a 1 1/2 pint one though I believe you can get smaller 1pint ones.
Some kettles have a switch to change over to 120v for use in USA and other countries using this voltage but many modern travel appliances are made to be used for all voltages without having to switch over.
My kettle is a no brand name one but I have seen brand name ones for sale in Tesco, Boots etc in the UK.

Our kettle is a Kenwood Discovery 0.8 pint with a dual voltage switch. It has been very useful over the last few years.
I was in my local TK Maxx yesterday and noticed several travel kettles on sale. They have an Antler with 2 cups for sale at £6. 99. Others available at around that price.
