We have always taken sterling travellers cheques - we found we were getting between 1.44 and 1.46 Euros to the £ out there whilst everywhere here was selling at 1.43/1.44 so we were marginally better off with the sterling which has always been the case for us.
Hope that helps!
Thanks to everybody who has responded
Hope you have a great holiday.....
The exchange places in Magaluf don't charge you any commission on sterling but they do with euro cheques. We were out there in June and got 1.48; in the UK it was only 1.39!
im going to can pic on thurs and we were told to take euro travellers cheques how much commission are we likely to pay
thx ed
Hi... i would go for sterling... we were in the costa del sol at the begining of the month and they were free commision..but the euro were 3%.
its too late got my euro travellers cheques last friday oh well
whats the exchange rate in palma nova at the moment?
Please check out the following topic:
That thread is getting a bit unwieldy David, so for brevity I will say that the rate on the street today is 1.44 for sterling or Sterling travellers cheques - no commission.

Live from Magaluf, and the rate today is 1.43. It never really changes much, but if you do change over here, be sure to go to places who dont charge commision. Ther are plenty of them.
Hi Jade
Just got back from palma nova, the best rate i found was in Nantes shop in palma nova, it is just past Banana Joes, they dont charge commisison and they give you a free gift and a 10% discount in the shop, they are offering 1.44, the banks only offer 1.43 and charge to change it.
Been a few times to majorca and have always taken sterling and changed it there before the euro came in, but noticed when i went to costa dorada that i was better off by exchanging it at home, any ideas or would u try cash again and shop about for a good rate there..
Have always found it cheaper taking sterling T/C in Majorca.
is it best to buy euro or sterling cheques when travelling to majorca
WOW !....there was a discussion on this about a month ago that filled two pages.
I would say definitely Sterling T/C, generally the exchange rate for these is better in resort. Also if you have a branch of Lloyds TSB near you they are selling Sterling T/C commission free - you don't have to bank with them either.
Can anybody tell me best place to change € Euro travellers cheques. I'm worried there may be high commission, as I have been caught out like this before.
The other way we may take money is in our Nationwide card account, and withdraw money from hole-in-the-wall. Nationwide do not charge a fee so this may work out to be a cheaper method.
Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.
