Hi All, just back from my jollies and am happy to report that I used my new Nationwide card for the first time with no problems at all. So thanks to all on here for the recommendation. Just waiting for my statement to check what exchange rate I got. Spent a lot less than we thought as well so will be putting what's left towards the 2009 holiday fund
Just got back from Mallorca drew out 40euro's twice using my Nationwide card, first time the rate was 1.251 (£31.95) and second time it was 1.242 (£32.20).
looking at the exchange rate now for the euro is very poor, i just wish i had bought mine last week now, i'm down around 80 euros from last week for what i'm taking, i still haven't bought them as yet i am just hoping the rate goes up slightly in the next week
Can we just go to the airport and get currency from travelex even if we dont order online?
Yes you can, but you will get a significantly poorer rate than if you pre-order it online.
Now if it does drop, surely that cant be good for the holiday business, if cost of hotel is costed on the euro, would this mean an increase here in what we pay.
Then when we go on hoilday we need to calculate how much more money to take, it would have been far less if the rate had continued to increase, so I would have hope next summer it would have been €1.78 to the £1
I can't see anyway that the £ is going to be massively stronger against the Euro to the extent that we'll be getting 1.78 to the pound even by next summer. I'll be basing my budget on it getting no better than 1.50 - if it climbs higher, then all well and good but assuming that it could get as high as 1.78 is likely to leave a massive hole in my budget otherwise.
the way its going im not budjeting on anything over 1.35 and if i get that i think i will be lucky
hi i have heard these are the best cards to take abroad can i apply online for one or do i have to go into a branch.i have been to there website but cant see anything on it.also where is the best place for euros i go away the 17th december thanks all if anyone has any info please can you give me step by step details please im a bit blonde lol thanks
A Nationwide Flex account card is definitely the best way to get the highest rate.Just pop into your nearest branch and open an account. We used our card last month in Turkey and we got a much better rate than the exchange rate in resort.
just got back from a week in greece (2 weeks ago) had my bank statement yesterday and with my nation wide card i was getting between 1.26 and 1.27 in resort you were getting 1.20
A new low today - M&S offering 1.149 euros to £1 (also US $1.43) - unless something changes drastically, next years holiday is looking very expensive...
I am going to Goa in 2 weeks, which will be better value, Dollor or sterling travellers cheques.
1.07 to buy from travelex (on line rate) for the euro so its getting better
good, we go two weeks on Sunday, glad its improving
1.10 from travelex today (online rates)
