Hi everyone,
This is my first post on here. I read a lot before registering and there's a ton of good stuff on here - great advice too.
We're travelling to Goa (Mapusa area) from London on a charter flight at the end February for two weeks. We are concerned about the flight but also about just living there. We will be living with family (my roots are Goan, although I've never lived there for more than a week).
Some of the things that concern us are:
1. Mosquitos - creams, balms, lotions etc, for a 6 month old. Also, what type of clothing to keep mosquitos off. Can you buy "mesh ware" locally and is it any good for outdoors, plus indoors at night.
2. Water - what would one normally do to clean pacifiers, sippy-cups, utensils etc for the baby and the 26 month old?
3. Diapers - we are planning on buying biodegradable ones that we can just burn in the backyard. Is that advisable?
4. Pediatricians - would be nice if they had experience with kids from the US/UK/Canada etc. Anyone know any they could recommend?
5. Baby-type supplies - Are there any recommended stores for things like sippy-cups, pacifiers, etc.
6. Any suggestions on animal-wildlife-type activities, something like the Jungle Book thing but just for the day and that's atleast 2 yr-old friendly. We can leave the baby at home.
Any suggestions on the above points or anything else would be greatly appreciated! My wife and I have been to Goa before, 4 years ago, but we didn't have any kids, so this is a whole new ballgame!
Thanks,
Kevin
Welcome to the Goa forum Have you had a look at
We have a lovely Goan friend who lives in Mapusa. He has a 18month old little girl and is expecting a new baby in March. He is really nice and would be glad to give lots of advice. Are you going there to live permanently?
Michelle
Sorry just re-read your post and see you are only going for 2 weeks The local supermarkets sell lots of european items so you should'nt have a problem. There are doctors on every street corner but who to use is a different matter. Then again there are also plenty of chemists/pharmasists who give very good advice.
We visited Goa last time when our little one was 22months old. At night she wore babygro and was not bitten at all. We covered her in Odomos before going out in the evening and smothered her in P20 during the day time.
As far as the Jungle Book trip goes, we did the day trip only and it was fine for her. I think in hindsight though I would have done the trip by private taxi and missed out the spice plantation as she was bored by then and too young to do the white water rafting which the older members of the group did.
I would say use bottled water to sterilise your sippy cups etc and brush teeth etc. Just make sure you boil the water.
Hope this helps.....We are going back on Feb11th but she is nearly 4 now and our little boy is 5.
Louise
