I would like to know what do you do if you have no photographic id, which I had up till last year; dont drive so no driving licence, not been on holiday abroad for 10 yrs so no passport. Only last year did I obtain passport so I could go abroad.

Can airlines refuse you permission to board if you have no photo id

If their policy is that you need photgraphic ID to travel, then I guess the answer would be 'Yes, they can refuse you permission'.

I think I remember seeing an episode of either 'Airport' or 'Airline' and a woman had an expired passport as her ID and they refused to accept it .
She weas arguing about it and I can't remember if they let her travel in the end.

I don't know what you do if you don't have any ID.

Fairly recently a friends whose son is a regular in the Parachute Regiment, told me of a case when one of his sons platoon who had recently returned from Iraq, to Colchester, attempted to fly with Ryanair from Stanstead to Scotland. He was turned back at the check in as the photographic I.D. was his Army pass which is used when leaving the country for service abroad. The check in staff were not interested, his case was taken up by his Commanding Officer, and his local M.P. but they got nowhere with Ryanair, who simply stated that the photo I.D. they will accept is listed on their webpage and NO exceptions will be made !!! Most domestic airlines will accept the citizencard which can be purchased here:

The budget airlines are much stricter than the others. BA will take a photo driving license or such like between Edinburgh and London but Easyjet insist on a passport.
Theres a lot to be said for the train.

Ryan air say,

Basicly they will accpet a uk driving licence for domestic flights, this includes flights to southern ireland aswell.

Easy jet say,

Not quite as clear but looks like you can use a driving licence for domestic flights with them aswell.
I would guess most other airlines are much the same (bmi and ba etc)
