The only trips to Sicily I know of are the day excursions run by Virtu Ferries and they only take you to Mount Etna & the Southern part of the Island. This same company might run a regular ferry service but you will probably need to take a hire car or hire one in Sicily to drive to Palermo
Have you contacted Air Malta? They may do flights to Sicily. Also there may be another ferry company who may take you there.
Mind you I do think that your trip could turn out to be very expensive. Let's know if you do go there, how you arranged it - and the cost!

Hi Rob, I can confirm that Air Malta fly direct to Palermo twice a week however only on a monday and a friday.
In case all this fails, can anyone recommend a pub/bar to watch the game in (for the rest of family also), around Bugibba area? Many thanks
Hi Rob, you will have no shortage of bars to watch the footy in around that area, you will probably see the game advertised on chalk boards outside the bars well in advance of the game, so it gives you plenty of notice to choose which bar to watch it in, I hope they win though, even though I'm a Northener I have always had a soft spot for West Ham (can't stand chelsea or spurs though although the Gunners are ok).
Paul's Cactus Bar St Anthony Street, Buggiba. Tel:- 2158 5905. Up the street opposite McDonalds.
lots of Plasma screens, clean and tidy.
Maybe someone on here can help.
Hi again, thanks for all the info, very helpful.
Hi Rob if you went how did it go ? and if you didn't I bet your glad you didn't
