Never took any notes this year because we were travelling in a group of 6. Here's a basic rundown of what we did, just from memory though so it's going to be a bit vague.
Sunday 6th September
Arrived at Orleans about 7pm, checked in, unpacked a bit, took shuttle to strip. Had Harrah's buffet with 2/1 coupon, wandered up towards Venetian went to St Mark's Square then wandered back to Bill's for shuttle about 11pm or so.
Monday 7th September
Breakfast buffet at Orleans. Picked up car at 230pm at MGM. Dodge Grand Caravan which is a 7 seater and it was a big monster compared to my little Yaris I have at home. Also not helped by my slight nerves after having been in an accident at home the previous week . Drove over to Meadows Mall (using the I-15 for the first time which was a bit of a nightmare). Shopped for 2 hours, then took the I-15 down to Silverton for the buffet. There was some sort of Labor day deal on and the buffet was only $5. This meant having to wait for an hour to be seated. Meanwhile we gave the freeplay coupons to the others in our group (ACG Coupons), and they won $11 for the kitty. This paid for the passes at Lake Mead and Valley of Fire few days later. Drove back up after being in Silverton a couple of hours and had few drinks in the Mardi Gras Lounge.
Tuesday 8th September
Got up early to discover the Orleans buffet wasn't open at 730am so we hit the road out towards the Hoover Dam, stopping for breakfast at Arizona Charlie's Boulder (not great but 2/1 ACG made it very good value anyway), on to a store for some drinks, and then down to Hoover Dam for about 10am. Did the Dam Tour $12 I think and then drove up through Lake Mead area up and through Valley of Fire. As there had been a bit of time wasting earlier we were starting to get short of time, and I was getting a bit fed up with driving so we didn't stop many times at VOF. It was also a constant 105F for the first week of our trip so it wasn't the most comfortable having to get in and out of the car.
Wednesday 9th September
Drove up to Red Rock casino using the big road that cuts up there at a diagonal from near the Orleans. This saved so much time compared to driving up and along Charleston! Couldn't believe it. Although I wasn't having much fun missing the exits on the I-15, it was still working out quicker even when making mistakes! Did Red Rock breadfast buffet, which was good as always. Then over to Marshall's, Best Buy etc. Along to the outlets near downtown, and then cut back across to Wal Mart. Went over to TI and parked. Went over to pick up tickets for Phantom, while hubby went over to Fashion Show ticket booth to get something for 2 others in our group. They went to the Rat Pack, and reported that it was good. Back to Orleans about 3pm or so, and had Margarita's by the pool. Took taxi to Venetian for Phantom. Great show. Then walked over to California Pizza Kitchen at the Mirage, and had bread starters which were huge! Couldn't eat it all, and also realised our tiredness was catching up on us after not sleeping very well at all the first few nights.
Thursday 10th September
Went out quite early again, to south strip outlets this time.
Stopped by downtown (parked at the Golden Gate I think it was just across from the Plaza), valet fee only. Saw light show, had Main Street Station buffet. I'm sure we ended up back in Wal Mart.
Friday 11th September
Moved hotels to Platinum (love this place). Had a bit of trouble getting rooms at a decent time. Hubby and I went over to drop the car off, as no-one else wanted to walk back they just sat waiting for their rooms at the Platinum. Felt this was a bit of a waste of their day as there was no need to sit and wait as we had one room so luggage was all stowed away! We walked back up via a few casinos for a cool down. Stopped in at Bally's for a bit of Pizza on the way at Sbarro. Also got a bit of fudge cake for the room. Yummy. Sat at pool for a bit when we got back. Got ready and all went out for a walk over to the Strip. Didn't do very much, ended up in Casino Royale doing the freeplay thing. I was playing it for far too long (got a few wins that were big enough to give me loads more spins, but they weren't actual jackpots so not real wins at all!). Sent the others back ahead of us, and hubby and I walked back not long after midnight.
Saturday 12th September
Being in a group started becoming a strain at this point after 6 days. Hubby and I walked over to the strip for some breakfast in the morning, also went up to Harrah's to find out about Mac King and Legends. Turned out 2 of the group didn't want to go when we got back so we sat by the pool for a bit then 4 of us set out for Mac King in the afternoon. Great show. Headed back to hotel at 9pm as agreed to have a drink in the hotel bar together. 2 we were out with headed to bed, and other 2 came down for drinks (free wine we got with the room offer).
Sunday 13th September
Headed over to MGM where we were staying for the final 4 days, by taxi. We were booked on the buffet offer. Again had trouble getting checked in 2 grand tower rooms, and 1 celebrity spa suite (really like these rooms despite the long walk to the end of the corridor!). Had the brunch, then 4 of us went out to get water etc at Walgreens and came back to search for the others who had went to their room although we didn't know the room number etc. We then eventually found them when they came back down and things were a bit tense again so we went to the room. The 2 guys went to the Chicago Bears game over at Hooters and had a little too much beer (to the annoyance of us a little as we had had to go to the pool then just wait in the room while the game lasted much longer than expected!). Never mind, I got my ironing done for the next 4 days. Went out for a bit over to NYNY, but didn't really feel like doing much, and didn't want to go to any bars and risk the boys getting any more alcohol Earlyish night.
Monday 14th September
Another tense day, whereby we ended up going for breakfast then up to Fashion Show Mall by ourselves. Came back, went to pool, and then had dinner buffet then out for a while. Whole day was just the 2 of us. Walked up to Caesars etc in the evening.
Tuesday 15th September
4 of us took the monorail up to the convention centre, then taxi over to Boulevard Mall. One of our cases the zip was starting to go, so we found really nice Delsey cases (medium plus carry on) and bought those from Marshalls at a very good price considering the price of Delsey cases in Macy's!!! $140 for both including tax, they were a few hundred each in Macy's! Picked up another couple of things in the mall but nothing too much. Off to Florida in 7 weeks anyway, so no real need to shop like crazy as we will have another shot at the shopping this year! Back to hotel and down to pool for a while. 6 of us went to Legends in the evening. Good show. Walked back via Fontana Bar which was nice ($14 for a cocktail though , but beer was only $6 which surprised me a little).
Wednesday 16th September
This was really our last day. Felt like a long trip though. Had a long lie and then got ready and went for breakfast buffet, then to the CSI Experience. Was quite good (I'm not a CSI fan) but not sure if all that good for the price ($30), and then we went over to Hooters to cash out a ticket, over to Excalibur for Krispy Kreme holes for breakfast next day and a donut to snack on too. Then up to Walgreens for last minute juices etc, then back to pool for an hour or two. Never did much sunbathing this holiday, bit harder to do your own thing in a group. Evening we all did our own thing, so we played in MGM casino for a while after the buffet, then went over to NYNY for a drink in 'America', and then to Centrifuge in MGM for another drink. Chatted to a Scottish family along the way, and a English couple in the bar.
Overall it was a good trip, few mishaps along the way, but overall it was good. Will be going back next year of course, probably september again, but just the 2 of us next time.
Did the newbies enjoy Vegas?
I've never seen it so quite. We caught the Deuce Saturday afternoon mid strip and got a seat no problem. It's normally jam packed. Mon Ami Gabi was very busy tonight, but we passed other restaurants with hardly anyone in them.

Yes, think they enjoyed themselves overall.
I think it may have been fairly quiet overall, only times we queued for a buffet was at Orleans (and not too bad), and then at Silverton when that $5 dinner offer was on. MGM buffet we were just walking straight up to the cash desk, but then standing in line for about a minute only to be seated. I seem to remember from our early Vegas years that we didn't bother with buffets because of the queues, and particularly at weekends certain buffets would be really busy. Harrah's was even quiet on the Sunday night of the Labor Day weekend.
Hope you're having lots of fun!
Many thanks for your report Lesley
You forgot to mention the $33million slot win which made all the group hassle worth it!!!!
Glad you managed to find time to visit one of my favourite bars in Vegas Centrifuge! To be honest, aside from the West Wing bar which is a little out of the way and fairly low key, I like all the MGM bars and really enjoyed our bar crawl around them all last year topped up with a McDonalds and some slot play later in the evening.
Florida next you lucky thing and another Vegas trip already in the thoughts. Can't be bad!!!
How long did CSI take? Was it busy?
Interesting about buffet queues, i remember passing a couple of times due to the length of queues. Its on my things to do to try a posh weekend brunch this year, hopefully it will happen(though there is a fight on).
And the news about the quiet duece Luci, not good for vegas overall but yippee for those of us going. Is strip traffic slow though due to construction or does the reduced amount mean its not too bad?
CSI took about 1 hour or so. I suppose you could whizz through in 40 mins or so, or take an hour and a half if you wanted! No hurry, you just go round various displays after viewing the crime scene. You wouldn't want it to be too busy, or you would be waiting at every display, and then hurrying to let others on. There was some things like microscopes, bullets with sizer, dna explanations etc, all with things that you can sort of check/do a bit like something that would entertain kids in a museum. It was ok, but I'm not saying it was fantastic. Really depends what you like - I didn't expect to love it anyway.
Yes, Florida in just under 7 weeks...can't wait. Will post separately regarding our touring plans.
I read that someone took 2 hours on the Deuce from the Stratosphere to the Monte Carlo, but that's mainly down to the strip being torn up with construction.
We got a taxi back from the outlets today and the driver said things were much busier the past 3 weeks.
Lots of bargains at the outlets with loads of places doing buy one, get second item half price.

You certainly got plenty done on your trip. A lot of what you do is similar to our routine when in Vegas.
We went to Silverton buffet on the May holiday and they had the same $5 offer. I thought that the way they organised it was very good. We got a time and a number and had to go back then, so there was only a small amount of queuing and time for a couple of pre dinner cocktails whilst playing the machines. We really like the Silverton buffet.
