This is my first post and its going be a long one. I'll be putting my trip report on here over the next few days (possibly even weeks depending on how I get on).
Before I start I just want to thank all the members of the site for posting the vast amount of information that's on here which really helped us in booking, planning and just plain looking forward to and getting excited about our first trip to Goa. And I hope this report will put a little back into the site and maybe help some newbies like us.
About us: I'm male, 41 and went with my other half Rebecca who's 32. I wouldn't describe us as well travelled but we have visited North Africa, Central America and other developing countries/areas. I'm a bit of a hippy at heart and Goa has been on my list of must-go-to places since my late teens.
Holiday was booked through Thompson, two weeks from 26th Nov staying at Silver Sands Hideaway B&B Candolim. Something strange happened when booking, went to book it online one Saturday afternoon last Feb and the price was £300 per person more than brochure price so shocked and very disappointed we decided not to bother. Then the follow Wednesday we decided to have one last look at their web site and the price was back down to brochure price. Which begs the question; Do travel companies deliberately increase the price of online holidays on a weekend when most people would be looking to book? Anyhow holiday was booked paying about £1000 each flying from Gatwick.
We live in South Wales so used the Indian Centre in Cardiff to send away for our VISAs. I would definitely recommend using their service, ample free parking, very easy to find and we had them back within a week. This was in mid October btw.
The closer and closer departure date came the more and more we were on HT, reading up on anything Goa related. The excitement was really building - in fact I think Rebecca had started her count down in September! We couldn't wait, checking the weather forecasts and dreaming of 30 degrees almost became an obsession until horrors of horrors two days before we were about to leave the five day forecast (on every site we could find) was rain, rain and more rain!

The day of departure started well, we travelled from South Wales to Gatwick by train. While waiting at our local station we got talking to an older couple who by spooky coincidence spend three or so weeks over Christmas in Candolim every year - how mad is that? We had a good chat and they gave us loads of tips and good places to eat and visit. The train journey with a change at Reading went like clockwork and we arrive for our flight with three hours to spare only to be told the flight was delayed by seven hours (from 6.40pm to 2am) and we could check in but not go through security for the next three and a half hours. Cue ten hours of utter tedium (except for the few hours spent in Gatwick Weatherspoons). Anyhow sometime around 2am we were off and on our way!
