Although I find some of the reviews very harsh I also tend to think that maybe the reviews are not checked as much as they should be before they're posted by TA themselves.
This year as usual I posted my honest review(as I did on here) and soon after a couple of other groups posted reviews which were mainly there to attack others(myself included) and said very little about the actual hotel or the area and once I reported these to TA they were removed within a few hours. I did initially wonder how such attacks were allowed to be published in the first place though.
We don't allow reviews from the country where the accommodation is situated & if an ip shows this is the case we remove the review and leave a message explaining why & asking the poster to resubmit on their return.
This I can understand for the reasons stated, but it means I can't do any reviews!
I am from the UK & now live in Greece & all my travel in the last 4 years has been to explore other islands & areas of Greece as well as numerous stays in Athens, so my IP adress will always show as Greece no matter whether I post from home or while still travelling.
When researching where to stay I take an overall view of any reviews on any site. I find TA easy to use for this as I can ignore extreme (good or bad) comments from anyone who has just joined & only made the one contribution. I rely more on regular posters & can always look into their other contributions, forums & reviews, to get an idea of their travel style & whether it coincides with what I'm looking for. If they appear to love really busy tourist resorts, hotel entertainment, karaoke, FEBs etc & they review a hotel as fantastic then I know the chances are I will hate it!

This isn't always the case Athensfan. I've let reviews through in the past when the poster has stated they are from a different part of the country ie Larnaca in Cyprus. You can usually tell by the actual review whether it's biased either way or not.
