Nicola, there were all types of trips available - boat trips - excellent, especially the pirate boat - great fun!!
Also there is a waterpark at the beginning of the hotel zone, we didn't go, but others said it was excellent. Just Google waterpark Cancun, to find out which hotel it is at, as I have forgotten the name of it.
There is an aquarium at Isla shopping mall that looked good, and judging by the amount of people going in, it seemed popular.

Your family may enjoy a visit to either Xel-Ha or Xcaret parks on the Riviera Maya. Their websites are http://www.xcaret.com and http://www.xelha.com. I went to Xel-ha a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. It is a natural water park where you can swim with dolphins, snorkel, scuba dive, swim, eat, drink - endless possibilities! We booked with our tour operator and spent a day there on an all inclusive basis. We cycled around the entire park, had a great lunch at one of the Mexican restaurants and spent an hour or so drifting down the natural lazy river in a giant tyre. There is also a land train and playgrounds. Great fun for kids!

Ive come from the Goa forum so its no wonder im finding it pretty quiet

It is a quiet forum, particularly when compared to the Goa forum which is probably the busiest along with Turkey!
