Just back from the Marhaba Place in PEK, though haven't booked for '08 yet.

However, next year, we are considering having two single week holidays in say May and September, rather than a fortnight summer hol.

We enjoyed this year, but that is it till next year now. We did the two holiday thing in 2005, and it was great - coming back from a week away in May, but having another to look forward to just after the UK summer.

And, with our son being young (3 years), two weeks at once can get quite repetetive as he just wants to play in the pool each day!

As for going back to Tunisia, we definitely would - but again, while our son is young, some of the longer excursions that we would have liked to go on, are out of the question, as he wouldn't sit for long periods on a coach, and probably wouldn't appreciate some fo the sigths like we would.

So, if we go back next year, it'll only be for one week I think.

You'll also probably find the weather is rather more comfortable in May and September, especially with a young child.

I've now not only got my October holiday finally organised but also booked a flight for next February today. I've never before booked so early but Travel Republic had a decent price from Stansted, with only a deposit to pay now, and their sale finishes at midnight so I grabbed it quick. At least it will save me hours of checking the web in the next few months.

I now regret booking so early with Travel Republic as the flight is even cheaper elsewhere, but I can live with it and at least it is done and dusted now. Before anyone reminds me that you should never check prices after you've booked, the only reason I've done so is because a friend is now considering coming out with me.

This is a new one for me.
As regulars will know, I normally drive to Tunisia during the Christmas break, not this year though, we had a few short breaks through the year and said that we would stay home for Christmas. What a mistake! I spoke to a friend that travelled with us last year, he is currently in Tunisia, in his car as we would have been, so I thought and I thought some more.
Then I took some action; on Christmas Eve I booked a flight to Tunis from Gatwick for 20th April, return on the 30th.
This will be interesting as it will be our first time flying to Tunisia, then we are going to back-pack our way around.
Obviously we know the country quite well from our previous trips, however, this time we will use public transport, it's going to be fun.
.....and I'm so excited!

Public transport is cheap and reliable Kevin - Tunis to Sousse about 8 dinar if my memory serves me correctly. You might like to get a Carte Bleu which will give unlimited travel for a week or two on the trains and will work out even cheaper. You usually need to provide a passport sized photo at the station for this. Try and avoid the metro during the rush hour around Tunis as it makes the District Line look like a walk in the park. http://www.your-tunisia.com/

Also have a look at http://www.seat61.com/Tunisia.htm which is useful for timetables.

Buses are excellent value, about 2 dinar from Sousse to Mahdia, (about 1.5 hours). Louages are your other option and will get you to the centre of any of the towns very cheaply, stopping off en route for the driver to get himself a coffee or snack. If you are a non-smoker however you should bear in mind that they are shared by locals, many of whom smoke!!

I'm sure you will have a wonderful time and have taken on board that we will expect a full report on your return.

Hello Aslemma,
Didn't take you long to reply, did it? Ha ha.
I expected something from you but not quite that quickly, but thanks. I knew the buses were cheap but I hadn't realised how cheap.
Thanks for the tips and links.

My pleasure Kevin. Somehow I thought you would be unable to get through the year without your Tunisian fix. :) I do check in regularly, especially as I haven't had e-mails from HT for months now perhaps they are trying to tell me something.
