Thanks Karen, you have put my mind at rest, we were actually chased by 3 wild dogs in Egypt so this is why I asked! Mozzies, that doesnt surprise me, they tend to be in most hot countries anyway. Any recommendation on powerful spray or tablets would be good as I do react quite badly (ended up with what can only be described as an elephants foot in Lindos!!!). I certainly think so far our hearts are set on Akyaka, having looked I do think that Icmeler could be too commercialised and busy for us, we are looking for more relaxed and not kareoke bars! Have been looking at the Yucelon Hotel - which looks about what we are looking for. Do you know if there are any parts of the hotel/apartments which are better to stay in? ie: away from the pool, in the apartments rather than the hotel, etc, etc? Thank you once again! :)

We have been to turkey twice end of may and twice over the hot summer period of july and August . Never ever had problems with wasps and the last two years july/august very few problems with mozzies either although we still make sure we wear some repelant. In may we found a lot more and I'm assuming that is partly due to more rain at the begiining of may . Mozzies like still/stagnant water .

i would get some piriton or something similar from the chemist and start taking it a week before the holiday and during the holiday, this is what they recommended my mother in law who always gets badly bitten abroad, but please check with the drs first. turkey has very good mozzie sprays, kov and off seem the best although they smell unpleasant.

the 1 good thing about akyaka is you can go to icmeler, dalyan and marmaris for a day out to see what you think, marmaris is only 20 miles away and we like to go and do some shopping, hubby took ellie to the water park etc, marmaris away from the madness of bars, restaurants etc is a lovely place, near the marina area, but the hassle is bad ,mainly in the bazaar, but an experience lol. thats 1 huge plus for akyaka you get no hassle at all.

the dogs in akyaka are very friendly and dont bother you at all, we have 1 that sits outside our apt and waits for us to feed it, but thats our choice as i always take it food, if i didnt it wouldnt bother us.

the yucelen does look fab and is in an excellent location, i havent been in it, so not sure about the rooms , have you had a read up on any reviews to see what they recommend. i have been told they do a good buffet there but never got round to trying it, have you got any prices for it as a package and a diy

lyn i never saw wasps in olu deniz either but i have read some reports saying they can be bad, might be just certain times of the year, i know when we went to icmeler and fethiye both in oct there were quite bad, think the end of the season when they are dying might be worse, ellie always without fail stands on a bee :duh and screams the beach down

Probably your right karen . If you think about it we dont normally get them here until later in August when you get plagued by them if you take picnic to the park. I hate the darn things in fact I wont even stay in the same room as one . I run around flapping my arms about and get into a right old state . Theres no way I wouldnt of noticed them in Turkey if they had been there the same time as me :yikes but then we are normally there Late July /early August so by the end of August they could be appearing .

did you know that bees swim :yikes , ellie has stood on a bee in the sea a few times, when someone told me it was a bee i couldnt believe it, didnt know they swam lol

There were a few wasps in Olu Deniz both times I went. Nothing really to fuss about though. At the Belcekic Beach they used to put little dishes of ground coffee on your table and ignite it. It would then smouder a bit and that keeps the wasps away. Only noticed them at around evening meal time.

Did that not happen when you were there Lyn ?

Apologies I have realised we are going a bit off-topic here.

Karen - oh...my...god - bees swim!!! Ok, so if i go to Akyaka at the same time as you and you hear someone screaming the beach down - that would be me!!!

Will check with the doctor about piriton, but sure I will be fine on that and sprays. I think you have certainly made my decision, will now have to find some prices for Yucelen and look at the hotel you sent me too. Thank you again! :)

No cant say I ever noticed Chris . Maybe it did it's job then because I would definately have noticed the wasps .

We do have a special topic about mozzies and what to use nicky . I always use the Avon SSS now called soft and fresh dry spray oil that you will find recommended in that thread . If only I could find it :banghead:

Lyn, thanx, will look out for this and check out the thread too. Very helpful! While you are there, what do you think of Akyaka? I think I am pretty much going to go there but would be great to have your thoughts too. Nicky :)

It looks lovely nicky but alas we have 3 teenagers so I dont think they would be too impressed :rofl . I have to try and balance things for us . We dont like "too busy and in your face " but there has to be a few bars and at least somewhere for our boys to dance and chat up some female company with plenty others around of the same age :yikes . but we like "compact and safe" if that makes sense .For that reason at the moment we normally go A/I ,it just suits us as a family at this stage . We may well choose to do things differently in a few years time and I would love to check out some of these smaller and more tradional turkish resorts.

Lyn - thanx, guess it would be a better resort for us then!!! By the way, I cant find that Avon spray on the website - any ideas? Thanx Nicky :)

Ive found the mozzie thread . Be warned it's very long . http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=240&view=unread#unread//url

Here is the Avon product you will find mentioned .It's not classed as a repelant but widely worn as one . the mozzies hate it . It has to be this fragrance .

we are going in july for 2 wks , not sure if we are going there in oct yet, booked to go to lykia world for the 1st week and cant decide whether to stay in olu deniz or go to akyaka for 2nd week yet :rofl

have you managed to get any prices yet.

the gokova and idyma hotel are both nice but about 10 mins walk to the beach so i think the yucelen is in a better location

Hi Karen, can you tell me if Akyaka is full of teenage drunken party goers??? I would guess not as the resort is quite small but just a thought! Ithink I have definately decided on the yucelen hotel, looks lovely. Havent got any prices yet, but did ask someone (holimaniac) who had just booked it to find out who they booked it through. Nicky :)

theres no party goers in akyaka, definitely no british loud drunks lol, its mainly turkish tourists and a few brits, in couples or families. a few of the bars have live music but not loud music , its a really laid back resort but not totally dead.

ive just asked my mother to find information on the kordon apts and hotel for me, shes going there on sun so hopefully ill get info on that , its lovely and near the river and not far from the beach

i know the manager of the magician hotel bar on the beach in the middle, i can text him and get his website and price if you want, hes lovely
