Hi,
I have loads of questions to ask about a twin center holiday!
I only have a Tradewinds brouchure at the moment, my partner and i, both in our twenties are looking to go on this holiday sometime in early 2007, (ages away i know but already excited!). We think that the best time to go looks like March/April time?? Tradewinds offer three options for hotels etc, but we cant decide between option two which is 3 nights in Dubai at the Jebel Ali golf resort and spa then onto Kuredu Island resort for 6 night. The other option is three nights at the Jumeirah Beach hotel then onto The Lily Beach resort for 6 nights. Both the Dubai hotels look stunning so we do not mind which one of them we go to but we can't decide between the Maldives destinations.
We are looking for a small quiet place with a stunning beach (applies to all maldive islands i know!). We would both like to go scuba diving having had three 10meter dives in Tunisia last year although we didnt do a course so have no qualification and only going for 6 nights wont give us time to do one in the Maldives either. We would also like the destinatoin to have a good reef for snorkelling close to shore. We will most likely go for a water villa/bungalow, just because i really want to wake up, go outside and step straight into water!!!!! (Sorry, just seems so dream like!).
Both the destinations are an AI board.
The thing is im not sure if either if these destinations is best? What Maldive island does my wish list best describe?
Does anyone know of any other travel companies that do these twin centers?? but with other maldive destinations. The one essential point is that tradewinds use Emirates airline for this and they fly from Glasgow (we are in the NE of Scotland) so this is really important, and Emirate economy class sounds as though it is comfy enough as we cant afford to upgrade. I have so many other questions but i think this is enough for now.
Many thanks in advance for any help you can give!
Katie.
I hope this helps, I can't comment on Kuredu as we haven't been there, Lily beach we have on more than one occation, Lily beach is a small Island that has a great dive school operated by Oceanpro, you do not need to be fully qualified to dive, they will tailor training to enable you to dive with an instructor up to 12 Metres probably on the house reef or on one of the easy dive sites, you will be accompanied by a dive instructor at all times.
Other tour operators that use Emirates are Thomson worldwide and The holiday place, both available on the net.
Reading your wish list this is where Lily Beach differs, The water bungalows are not the normal type, although the decking does extend over the water the bungalow is not on the water, so it may come as a disappointment, having said that we enjoyed the stay in one, comparing the water bungalow to the standard rooms, I would go for the standard if given the choice, you would only be several steps from the waters edge in any case.
Regards
Joe
Thanks for that
I was concerned about the wall around Lily beach, i know it is there to protect the island but at the same time cant help wondering if it spoils the view? Have you been to any others? I asked at the travel agent and they said i could change the Maldive destination to any Maldive island of my choice at the extra cost........so the worlds my oyster so to speak.......!!!!!
So are there any others that sound like what im after? I have been wondering about the water bungalow thing.......maybe its not such a great thing after all? Also do you know what the snorkelling is like from these two islands?? Although we want to dive again it would also be nice to just walk into the sea and start snorkelling, which islands have all these requirements??!!
Small,
Quiet,
Good diving and snorkelling,
Good food,
Good day trips.
All help or tips and stories very welcome!
Thanks
Katie.
Can't speak about any other island, but i would definitely say that Lily Beach meets all your criteria
There are a number of threads on the HT site about Lily Beach that you might want to look at;

Have attached a link to some of the photos I took snorkelling (whale shark was on one of the trips run from the island).
Don't let the wall put you off, as you say it is there to protect the island, and it doesn't really spoil the view, and eventually you just ignore it and it becomes part of the scenery around.

Thanks for the links, had already seen your photos.....thought they were diving ones!! They are really stunning, did you take them quite close to shore? (other than the shark of course). What room type would you recommend? I dont mind paying to upgrade.
If i choose the Lily beach/Jumeirah Resort options for my twin centre it is going to cost about £1800 each flying with Emirates from Glasgow, Dubai is BB basis and Maldives is AI basis, this price is without up grades for rooms etc. Does this sound ok?? And of course this price is based on the 2005/06 brouchure. If anyone has any info on Dubai or any other info/suggestions please let me know.
Many thanks.
Katie.
We were at Lily Beach in May.It is a fabulous little island.
Not sure but thought it was worth mentioning but we heard from the rep and other staff at Lily that they are hoping to renovate it. The intention is to make the restaurant bigger and build some new water villas on the opposite side of the island to where they are now. Don't know when or if it will happen but it might be worth looking into. Lily should be pretty much what you are looking for then, all the things you listed and a water villa out in the sea.
