Hi Angie,
True enough, I must point that out to them. It's mainly my 5 yr old daughter who is revolting. Perhaps a nice new toy might come in handy!!! I hate bribery but....................
Many thanks again Angie, you've been very helpful.

Six months after the initial vaccinations, you are supposed to go back for a booster. This then lasts for appx 10 years. If you didn't have the booster, then I'm afraid you do need to start from scratch again.
do you have to have vaccinations to visit the red sea area or is it only recommended but not necessary, im looking at booking for next year but i know my daughter will freak out at the thought of having a jab and we will have a young baby with us too so dont to have to put kids through this, so if these are compulsory i will look elsewhere. we have been going to turkey for years and have never had any jabs

Angie.
thanks for that angie looks like its only recommended and not compulsary, just like turkey
ellie - meg - will you please look closer at this, as there is a thread going elsewhere about vaccinations. It appears that some holiday insurances don't cover you if you don't have vaccinations that are "recommended or advised". We have this problem, as we're going to the Dom Rep in 4 weeks. Hubby & I had vaccines 5 years ago for Mexico, but others in our party haven't been vaccinated, although they have travelled to Turkey & the Dom Rep before. We hadn't thought about insurance purposes until a work colleague pointed it out to us.
ellie-meg I would definitely make sure you're vaccinated before going to Egypt. I understand the choice is fully yours however, if youwere to fall ill whilst being over there your insurance probably wouldn't cover you unless you have had the vaccinations. When I went 2 years ago it was 2 injections. All we need now is a booste. Hope this helps.
i went into my local thomas cook yesterday to ask about all this and was told because its not compulsory you dont have to have any jabs, if you have any problems due to not having them the insurance will be ok as it was only recommended, i did tell her on a holiday site, but didnt mention the name that i had been told there could be insurance problems and she replied only if it was compulsory, now this had confused me even more , is she correct or not, think the best thing would be to contact my insurance
If you check the Health Advice for Travellers booklet T7.1, available from Post Offices, you will see that vaccinations and malaria tablets are not compulsory for ANY country, they are always just "recommended". However if you went to a country where anti-malarials were recommended, didn't take them and subsequently caught malaria, you may have a problem with your insurance.
I know a company director who went on a football trip to Europe. He contracted Hep A, was very ill for a long time and will continue to have health problems as a result. So it's not only in 3rd world countries where you are at risk.

Interesting read, just what i was looking for. Will go to my surgery to enquire.

Also look into your travel insurance for not being covered if you become ill without having your recommended jabs.Your claim will be invalid.
Angie.
We never used to bother for Turkey but have done for Egypt . Should still be ok time wise .i'm fairly certain you can still get them done a couple of weeks before but I wouldnt leave it any longer .
Of course it's up to you and I'm sure many people travel to the red sea without them if they know they won't be moving from the safe confines of their hotel but as Angie points out do check with your Travel insurance if you decide not to bother .
I don't know why but all that sharp coral worries me .

thanks lynwestie, going to docs today, if you don't have them your insurance company will not cover if they are recommended. Cost £10 each person Hep A Tetanus, Polio, Diptheria. Didn't hurt either, coward with needles. Nurse said insurance company would say policy void if don't have them and something happens
Hi we are off to Egypt in 5 weeks time. Phoned doctors today and they said the jags are free but not sure what ones we would need. Does anyone know?
Vaccinations are only recommended but read the small print on your ins as most WILL NOT cover you regardless of what the travel reps say
going to sharm in 6 weeks went to docs yesterday for jabs had tetanus hep a and typhoid and did not cost a penny best to be safe than sorry
I have never paid for mine from my surgery x
i never paid for mine either, and my kids got them free too.
