Not sure if I am covering old ground! But have found out from my Nurse that we needed to have Hepatitus A vaccinations before we travel to Bulgaria, just wanted to let others know before they go!
Hepatitis A is also advised on there if you go to Spain.
I'm glad you have consulted with your practice nurse, it's essential your immunization record is taken into account.
Hoogie, Hepatitis A is advised by the NHS, and that is the advice which should be taken..
The website is very good, but it is not clear as to the applicability of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to Bulgaria.
The advice given on the Dept of Health site HERE is that it cannot be used in Bulgaria at the present time.
Peter
I have had Hep this year and if I go and get the booster next May I am covered for the next 20!
She showed me a map where Hep A is around, to be honest its probably more common than people think!
Like I said tho better to be safe than sorry!
I also had my Tetanus, Diptheria and Polio as they were due, Like you say, if you see your practice nurse they will advise you.
Cheers
Kelly
Hi. Hepatitus has been quite rife in many Roma Villages in Southern Bulgaria during winter. I know some of you will say, "we are not going to visit the Villages" fair comment, but how do you know where your Hotel staff, taxi drivers in fact any of the employees on the Holiday Resorts come from. Have it done. Tonyt.
thanks for the advice!
thanks for this,, i have just booked an appointment for me and the kids to get done
i am not sure if al doctors are up to date on the vaccinations as I had Hep A a few years ago and they said it would last for ten years so i went back for my last week and they said that it was now covered for 20 years so i did not need it again, then my husband went to his doctors and had to have it again as his 10 years was up and the new jab would last 20 years, also he had to pay for his and i didnt
You cannot judge doctors by your experience. Your experience is just that Yours.
Everyone needs to check with their own Dr who knows their immunisation record and to take their advice.
Patka
maybe you misunderstood, my husband and and I both had the hep jab on the same day but with different doctors, but when i went to get mine done again they said that i did not need it as i was covered for 20 years but my husband did and was told that his new one would now last for 20 years
does this mean that some doctors are saying it lasts 20 years and some last 10 years or are their different types of this vaccination
When you say you had yours a few years ago Sue, how long was it? Vaccinations will have changed over a period of time and it may be worth checking that the GP you saw was right. It could be the vaccine you had, if an older version may just last the ten years. It would be worth double checking.
I know all surgeries are different, but for what it's worth we didn't pay for ours. Infact we had a whole barrage of vaccinations for the caribbean and they were all covered under the NHS.
Pam
You go to your surgery and see either your GP or Practice Nurse. They look at your vaccination record, look up the Dept of Health advice for your destination, and advise accordingly.
THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT!!
Peter
