Last year it was nice in the daytime, but got quite chilly in the evening. As far as the packing, we usually take one case each and have a foldaway one for our extra purchases.

This page is a list of historical temperatures for the whole year.

If you go to weather.com you can look up what it was like in previous years too.

Dont panic about booking your hotel, nearer the time you will find offers on sites such as fatwallet. Use the offer code they provide.

Everyone has different views, but we like to be central strip. Planet Hollywood, Paris and if you are lucky like us we secured a great deal at Ceasers Palace.

Flights are the most important thing to book, and then keep your eye on the hotels on a daily basis.

For flights, you could look at Mytravel as well as BMI. For the last few years they only used to fly to Vegas from March to October, but I noticed the other day that they are flying there once a week right through the winter this year. We flew with them in May and it was OK. Not a huge amount of space in comparison with BMI and other scheduled airlines that fly from Manchester, but OK for the price. We got the flights for £175 each, but that was with daily checking and following the trend.

Regarding the hotels, if you book direct you can change your booking if you get a better deal. We have all our days booked, but I look daily to see if the rates have changed. Most have risen since I booked our dates for November, but the best deals for that time haven't been released yet. It shouldn't be long now though.

You don't give your dates, but it might be worth bearing in mind that Thanksgiving Day is on Thursday November 22nd. That day is bigger than Christmas in the USA and you may find the prices high for that weekend. The few days before and after are always pretty cheap though. We have some days in November at $35 per room per day.

Hope that helps.

I doubt you would get a direc/non-stop flight for £350 unless you were lucky enough to catch a promotion. I have just checked the bmi site for 22 November and the non-stop flight is £1764!! The cheaper flights that are showing on the website have a stopover.

I booked my November flight on 3 January on a promotion and got it for £389 including a domestic flight from Aberdeen.

Thanks so much for all the replies so far

OMG £1764  Plan B I suspect.

I had a horrible suspicion about it being Thanksgiving and you've just confirmed it, we are hoping to go either 21st or 22nd for 5 nights as my friends birthday is the 24th and we want to be there for that. How's Thanksgiving going to affect us generally other than the liklehood of inflated prices at the weekend ?

Thanks again

It will be busy, but we've been there on extremely busy weekends and it wasn't a problem.

Weekend rates are normally at least double the Sun - Thurs rates, but can be considerably more on a holiday weekend.

Check the room rates on the hotels' website.

Don't worry about the inflated flight price as that will certainly come down. Keep checking the bmi site, but when the page comes up with the prices, click through to the next page to see if they are direct flights or with stopovers.

We were there the first few days of December last year. It was pleasant with sunshine but would advise to take a sweat shirt out with you even in the day as it could turn chilly. It was quite cold in the evenings. Do not expect to get much of a tan & the pools were pretty quiet.

Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, making it the 22nd this year. Vegas will be very busy from about the Tuesday through to Sunday evening- Californians will be in town as they can drive home on Sunday afternoon. Hotel prices will go up, and expect casinos, restuarants, bars, and transport to be crowded.

We were there over Labor Day, and couldn't even park in the hotel car park! Had to park in one of the few spaces left in the hotel park next door and walk, recovering the car next day.

Hi all again.....this trip is still in the making

I've seen some great prices for flights out of LHR with Air Canada to Vegas via Montreal or Toronto, has anyone done this route and if so any issues I should know about ?

Hotel wise we also found a great deal...(I think !) at the Bellagio, it works out at about £250pp for 5 nights is this good/bad/indifferent ? I checked the Bellagio website for a comparison and it was hugely more expensive.

Our short listed hotels are now The Luxor, The Bellagio & The Signature MGM Grand.....any thoughts ? Only the Luxor gets mixed reviews form excellent to poor, The Bellagio again mixed although I thought it was supposed to be the best hotel in Vegas ? The MGM gets excellent reviews but the rooms look small, mind you the deluxe rooms at The Bellagio don't look too big either unlike the Luxor as they look huge, I'm just worried about the reviews. I'm not overly worried about room size as I don't intend to be in the room much :D But my OH is after a bit of comfort as he has a BIG Birthday whilst we're there on the Saturday evening.

Just a note on the birthday front I'd like to take him somewhere really nice for a meal but not sure where having not been to Vegas before. I don't want hugely expensive and posh but somewhere special that he'll remember in years to come.

Thanks for your help in advance

The Luxor is not in the same class as Bellagio and Signature. That's just my opinion though.

As far as location is concerned:

The Bellagio is by far the best location of the three, being at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo.

The Signature is the newest and is all suites from what I have read, but it's main drawback may be that it is not on LVB, and is quite a trek to LVB. It is behind the MGM Grand and that is one huge hotel on it's own.

The Luxor is South LVB, not a bad location, but again I prefer centre strip.

As for the price, you may get it a little cheaper, but since you are going at Thanksgiving it looks OK to me.

Virgin Atlantic is doing a promotion at the moment. Flights are about £ 525.00 per person from Gatwick direct to Vegas.

Thanks Mark but Gatwick is a bit of a shlep for us and just too far. The Air Canada flights are approx £310pp out of LHR with just the one stop in Montreal or Toronto.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Where did you get that rate for the Bellagio? I would jump on that, especially if it includes a weekend. Their room are quite big at 510 sq ft and the location cannot be beaten.

Not sure what you class as expensive for a meal. Give us some idea of cost per person and perhaps someone will be able to suggest somewhere.

Hi Luci,

I take it £50 approx pp a night for the Bellagio is good then ? I do hope so as I'd LOVE to stay there it's just all so confusing this Vegas lark

I got that rate when looking at flights on the net and they prompted us to book the hotel too at the same time and save money. Once I took the flight price off the total that £250 for 5 nights including the Thanksgiving weekend came up for a Deluxe room. We would fly out on the 22nd Nov and come back Tues 27th Nov via Toronto with Air Canada.

The same site had the Luxor (our original choice) and the MGM Grand at good prices too.

Meal wise I don't have a clue ? I guess I'd be happy to spend up to £70 pp excluding wine/champagne.

Thanks

Yes £50 pppn is good for Bellagio, especially on a holiday weekend.

Sorry I can't help with the nice meal, we are total cheapskates when it comes to food. We prefer to spend our cash on other things. Having said that, there are some absolutely brilliant places in Las Vegas for a special romantic meal. I'm sure someone else will be able to advise you.

Miss Chief -

For a memorable meal, it has to be the Top of the World restaurant, at the top of the Stratosphere tower. Price is ok, food is good, not as good as somewhere like Alize (which is at the top of the Palms hotel) but Alize is twice as expensive (it is fantastic though)! You'll get 360 degree views of Vegas and the strip from the Stratosphere - check what time sunset is when you go and book a table around that time, so you get to see everything in both daylight and nighttime - it's brilliant. Call the restaurant itself and book, and ask for a table by the windows - there are basically two circles of tables, an inner and outer and you definitely want to be on the outer by the windows!!

50 GBP pp is about 200 USD for the room per night and that's cheap at any time, but a steal on a holiday weekend. Personally I would grab it with both hands.

Sorry can't help with the restaurant as we go for mid-priced places like Mon Ami Gabi at Paris where a steak is about $30. You will have your choice of places for 70 GBP pp, but I would recommend booking on such a busy holiday weekend.

Well, flights all booked out Heathrow to Vegas via Chicago with United and the same coming back...........Just hoping that the 2hr 20 min layover is enough to get from Terminal 5, to Terminal 1, plus immigration and re-check the luggage  I'm nervous already.

Booked the Venetian in the end and it works out about £56 pppn, which I thought was pretty good for such luxury especially as we're there on the holiday weekend.

Have scanned all the recent post for hints and tips but I'm sure I'll have more questions before we go

Thanks for all help so far and I PROMISE a trip report on my return on what is my first visit to Vegas.
